Cafe Lam: Huge Portion, Cheap Price, Good Taste

by irene3384

Truthfully, the place itself is not convincing, just sort of small local restaurant without aircon like many others in Bui Vien Street. There were only 2 foreigner eating in that place at that time. I'd like to give this place a shot after I read the review from a travel guide. The review itself said that this place is famous for its huge portion and cheap price but the taste is ordinary.I ordered 2 kind of meal for take away (Fish and Seafood with vegetables), both with steamed rice. The price was only VND40000 per meal including the rice. Quite cheap compared to others and suprisingly was quite a good taste, similar to Chinese food. The portion was really adequate, esp the rice, until my husband could not finish. So I suggest you buy 2 rice 2 main dish for 3 adults. There are so many dishes in the menu from local, western, pasta and vary drinks too. The place is not big and not so...

Pho 24: Pho- Viet Noodle soup

by no_second_chance

oh Pho is everywhere but ...if you guys care about hygiene a lot, then go for pho 24 franchise. Pho 24 has a few combos that come with drinks/soft drinks and/or desserts like yogurt or something close to creme brulee that they call 'caramel flan'. the combo should be around $2.5-4, and I guarantee that will satisfy most appetite. anyway you should plan at least $5/day/person on food. Once you get to the country and experience the cuisine, you will be able to adjust your budget better. Also it is true that you may want to avoid salads because I, even if with a vietnamese stomach, could not tolerate the green fresh leaves very well during the first 2 weeks in Vietnam (I had no trouble with ice and tap water, tho). Just pack some medicine handy for your stomach...just in case... who knows!

Trust the local cafes

by Stepwalk

The food all over Vietnam is superb so it’s too hard to list it all here. Suffice it to say that the local cafes and hawkers have the freshest and nicest food. That’s not to say that some hotels and upmarket restaurants don’t have nice food but our experience is that most of those are expensive, westernized, and the food is bought in bulk and frozen. I do however recommend Brothers Café in Hoi An which is in a beautiful French Villa alongside the river with very good food, and Le Tonkin in Hanoi. The rows of cafes in Cua Dai Beach in the street perpendicular to the beach are also very good.

Rainbow: Nice local Restaurant in Hanoi

by piglet44

Round the corner from our hotel ,in Hang Hanh street we went to the Rainbow, not an outstanding restaurant but great for a quick dash to eat in the monsoon rains.. They have typical Vietnamese food and also western (Pizza, pasta etc) dishes. The fish is very good.

Viet Cusine: elegant and romantic

by piglet44

We wandered around the Old quarter of Hanoi looking to spend our last evening meal somewhere nice. The restaurant recommended by our hotel only had one dish on the menu so we gave it a miss. eventually we came across this place Viet Cuisine, which was exactly what the doctor ordered. Lovely fresh fish, fresh spring rolls, and many dishes to choose from .

Cu Chi: A Typical Vietcong Meal

by iwys

When you visit the Cu Chi tunnels, you are served a typical Vietcong meal, as eaten by the occupants of the tunnels during the war. It is vegetarian. Can't say it was the best meal I've ever eaten, but it was OK. They also serve tea made from pandanus leaves, which was the beverage they used to drink. I liked that. The meal is incuded in the price of a trip with Sinh Cafe or Kim Cafe.
