Eat Where The Locals Eat

by TaniaBeard

For a rich cultural experience without the tummy bug take a walk through the streets and look for a busy restuarant filled with locals & lots of staff. Find an empty table (or at a table with other diners if you wish) & sit on one of the stools. The waiter will come over and advise you of the price of the meal & you can then purchase a drink as well. After paying, the waiter will bring over more food then you can possibly eat with lots of small bowls of many different cuisines. The food moves so quickly in the stalls no table is really served the same stuff & wen you eat you may not get the same item twice. Remember to wipe your cutlery first with a napkin (you are eating road side) and don't eat off your fork but from your spoon.

Ben Thanh markets on the street side: Marvellous market food!!

by Chellenz

On our last night we went to the markets for a snack and a drink. There is a road that is purely market food this is the best place to eat!! They guys and gals that work here take more pride in there jobs than half the people working in rest/cafes.The Chefs all dressed in there formal chef jacket, hat and pants the people serving the tables dressed in suits or shirts and ties!!food is fresh amazing taste and cheap as chips!! Cost us $8au for both our meals and we wouldn't have been able to finish just one of them...mine had so much baby octopus, pork and vege in it that I didn't even touch the noodles...lol A great feed there specialty was flaming prawns we didn't have these but videod the people next to us having them delivered and shelled for them at the table!!

Corner of Tran Quy Cap & Tran Phu St (Hoi An): Best comfort food

by Scarlet08

It was drizzling and I wanted something hot and soupy. Phuong recommended a couple of street vendors down Tran Quy Cap St. There's chicken rice and all, she said. I went there and looked at what the rest are having and ordered Chao Ga, which is porridge with chicken shreds. At 15,000 dong, you get this really yummy, hot bowl of rreeeallly tasty porridge. I slurped every spoonful with absolute delight. It's just what I wanted! I'm salivating just thinking of it now.

Royal India: Indian Food

by lalikes

Just down the street from the An An Hotel 1. Great food. Great service. Great price. As an American, though, we aren't used to eating in the open at 95 degrees, even at 9 p.m. so we kind of were sweating in our food. It was the first time my aunt, who I was traveling with had eaten Indian food and she loved it.I checked the $21-$30 box below because we ordered a ton of food and two drinks each. We had a refrigerator at our hotel so we ate the left overs for lunch the next day. Vindaloo and Samosas.

Quan an ngon: Vietnam food varities

by Cyncyn

There are lots of choices of Vietnam food. The most important is even you can not Vietnamese Menu. You can point to the food where there are lots of stalls show around the resturant. Although there is english translation of the menu, you may not pick up the food you order. The better idea is go in front of the food you want to order, ask the waiter to put it in your order list !

beside Ben Thanh market - Chip Sen: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood!

by jeffreychan

It's very cheap and delicious. Fried soft shell crab is a must order dish. Very fresh and meaty. Steam fresh prawns (7 of them...middle size) with coconut juice.Black pepper squid so - soSteam shellfish...not badBeefsteak...good2 tiger beers22 SGD for 2 persons Fried soft shell crab is a must order dish. Very fresh and meaty. As these crabs grow larger, they molt the exteriors and have a soft covering for a matter of days when they are vulnerable and considered usable. Usually crabs must be eaten within four days of molting to be useful as soft-shell crabs. Eating crabs without getting your fingers stain!!!!

Hao Ai: My Tho restaurants

by call_me_rhia

While visiting the Mekong Delta on a boat trip we stopped for lunch at the Hoa Ai restaurant by the river... which is nicely located in a large garden with colourful trees. A tourist restaurant, but quite a good one, for a change. However, the restaurant is slightly pricey by local standards - and you better count your dongs when you pay and they give you the money back... they tried to cheat on many of us. The speciality is a fish from the delta, called elephant ear... a large ugly fish that is served fried.. You can see it in the photo, but we did not have it, since we don't eat fried food. We had some grilled prawns, which were delicious and fresh.

Whale Island restaurant: Hon Ong restaurant

by call_me_rhia

he only food option on the island is provided by the Whale Island restaurant... and it is inclusive in the room price - that is three meals a day. Drinks are extra. While the food is plentyful, the cuisine is very much French-oriented, which one may or may not like. One negative aspect is that you don't have a choice, so what they serve you is what you get... the restaurant staff speaks almost no English at all, which means that asking for something as simple as a mango or pineapple rather than dessert can be quite hard. Generally you will be served a salad, a starter (a soup or some hors d'oeuvres), a main dish and a dessert... fish is not always part of the meal, strangely, and occasionally it may be three half prawns in the salad. I was not really impressed. My favourite food ended up being a fish curry rather than their French cuisine... a lot of curry and very little fish, but...

two addresses: Nha Trang restaurants

by call_me_rhia

Because we were visiting a friend who owns a restaurant, we did not sample many places in Nha Trang, unless we were out of town. These two places I can recommend them easily.La Taverna restaurant: a small italian restaurant (10 tables) run by our friend Athos, with great food that takes a while to be prepared. Always a good sign.Thap Ba Hot Springs restaurant: the restaurant located inside the hot springs park, by a little lake... surprisingly delicious food. ..La Taverna: everything was delicious. Gnocchi are prepared at the moment, the chicken with chilli and lemongrass is great and the sea bream heavenly.Address: 115 Nguyen Thien st.Phone: 058 522259Prices: less than US$10 Website: www.latavernavietnam.comThap Ba Hot Springs restaurant: we had grilled frogs with lemongrass, which were really excellent.
