Selling fish by SirRichard Hoi An morning market was a nice surprise. I had no idea of it when arriving into town. But that morning I woke up early to take a few shots of empty streets in the sunrise light, and I suddenly came through the market, which is by the riverside. There were few (if any) tourists around, so I felt suddenly surrounded by locals selling and buying fish and vegetables, fishing boats leaving the daily captures... Nice! :-) Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

D takes aim for another shot by richiecdisc Vietnam’s colorful markets are not only a great place to pick up local produce but also to people watch and snap priceless photos of local life.
Local fruits are always a great choice as often they are not available back home and if they are, they certainly cost a lot more. Dragon fruit is a magenta sight to behold that tastes a bit like kiwi.
We got three dragon fruits for a dollar when in Munich, one cost about twenty-five euros! Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkDirections: This particular market was in Hoi An but every city has at least one

The "other" Monet by SirRichard In some places of Vietnam, specially in Saigon, you can find art copiers who make excellent reproductions of classic western art masters. I saw this walking by Pham Ngu Lao area in Saigon. He was copying this huge Monet painting from a little photo... and the detail was incredible for someone who hadn't seen the original piece!!! Trying it on! by SirRichard In Hoi An I found some very convenient tailor shops... or should I say THEY found ME? I was walking by the streets some early morning when a thin girls came to me and asked me where was I from and all that stuff. She kept chatting along with me for a while and finally she told me her mother had a tailor shop in the tailors' market and could make me an "instant" suit, shirt, short or whatever. I was curious about it, so I went with her. Her "mother" showed me 5 or 6 catalogs with every imaginable clothing piece (western style), I chose 2 shirts and she did some measurements. I was leaving that noon, so I warned her about that and she said: "Oh, don't worry, come in 1 hour" Couldn't believe it, but when I returned in 1 hour I had it ready!! The same shirts I saw in the photos were there and fit me like a glove. 6 USD each! I should have ordered more... Leave a Comment Theme: Men's Clothes

by we2364 I have a chance to meet a migranted old Chinese man in Hoi An. Of course, he feels surprise that I travel alone here. And we have a very joyful conversation, and in Chinese. He talked to me by memorizing the immigration time of his family and his hometown in China. And then he warmly welcomes me to visit his house and thus brings me to this lovely lantern shop which his whole family makes the life from it. He never ask me to buy anything but to take a look. It's pity that I have my bag fully packed when I am already on a very tight budget. Otherwise I would love to buy some from this shop. Next time, I will!
All kinds of lovely lanterns. Normally we hang lanterns during the festival time in the Chinese custom.
Quite cheap Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftDirections: Next to Central Market in Hoi An

Mong Cai is a town at the upper north east corner of Vietnam. A border town with China. All sorts of traffics take place there and , actually, my coach was checked by the police on my way back to Hanoi.
There, you can find a lot of HI FI, video stuff that cost nothing. I bought a DVD player all zones, all formats player and I am very happy with it !!!
As usual you have to bargain. Go to several shops and see who makes the best deal for you. Of course you will find a lot of fake brands like "PIOnner, sony" but it is obvious to notice. I chose to buy the chinese brand QISHENG, which is a well known brand for expats. good quality. Leave a Comment Theme: Discount Store

by tampa_shawn Shopping in Vietnam means bargaining. Many Vietnamese vendors see Westerns as walking dollar signs and may ask 10 times the price.... While I normally hate to the entire bargaining process I found it quite enjoyable in Vietnam. It was such a fun, lighthearted little game…if you want to skip the bargaining all together some stores (like grocery stores) actually list prices We checked with our hotel for normal price of cyclos, bread, fruit so we wouldn't get too ripped off. Although visiting Vietnam is relatively inexpensive for Westerns so the prices even drastically inflated are still affordable.
Vietnam is known for its silk...silk liners for backpacking, silk purses, silk clothes… Getting custom clothing is also very affordable. If there is something specific you want you can bring a picture of it from the US or scroll through the various catalogues at the local tailors.
Pants/dresses $12 to $16 If your a "larger" size expect to pay more. Price may increase with higher quality material Leave a Comment Theme: Women's Clothes

A market by SirRichard All over Vietnam you can find many popular markets. I found them fascinating, I love markets and specially oriental ones, as the smells and colours are so different from western markets. I ignore what 99% of the stuff was, and that makes them even more fascinating, LOL Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

Some of the fishes by SirRichard You can find fish markets in most of the coastal towns in VietNam. The one I visited was in Hoi An, in the middle of the coast. If you come early you can see the auctions for the goods, and is a very interesting experience, even though you won't understand a single word!! Some of the fishes were really weird... I tried to ask the names of some, but couldn't understand the answers, so I just looked around and took some pics... Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

Sapa Market by windsorgirl A visit to one of the very colourful markets in Vietnam is a must. It is a great place to pick up fresh fruit for a quick breakfast or snack. Quite often you will see some unusual items for sale that you have probably never seen before. It is also common to see large baskets full of tiny ducklings or baby chicks and lastly, the photo opps are endless! Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink
