Tailor made clothes.

by cachaseiro

Ib Vietnam you have some of the cheapest tailor shops in the world (considerably cheaper than Thailand for instance). The quality is generally good and if you take a little time then you can really get some good deals there.I personally always stock up on work clothes whenever i am in Vietnam and i consider it the best country to buy clothes in.Tailor shops are found in just about all towns in Vietnam with Hoi An being the most famous town for tailor shops as there are dozens and dozens of tailor shops there. But no matter what destinations you visit in Vietnam then i would certainly recommend a visit to the local tailor shop.

Copied DVD´s and CD´s.

by cachaseiro

Vietnam is a country that copies e veything and sells it for a fraction of the price you will pay at home.If you have no moral problems buying CD´s and DVD´s that are copied then you are in the right place in Vietnam cause you can get just about any movie and any Cd for a dollar a piece, mabye even less if you buy a few.The shops are located all over Vietnam and some of them have a TV where you can view the movies first to make sure that the quality is ok.

Wing Art: Most unusual art

by lalikes

We stumbled upon this place by accident. It is butterfly wing art. The gallery is amazing and the artwork is so reasonable. The photo I attached does not do it justice. My aunt bought a piece of the artwork one day and I went back the next day to buy 4 pieces. One of the pieces I wanted was sold out and they said they would call the artist to work up a piece for me the next day in the late evening as I was leaving then. As luck would have it, when I went the next evening to pick up all 4 pieces, the shy artist was there. He came in to deliver the artwork and I kind of called him out to his workers as he spoke no english. He signed and named my pieces on the back. They were named but they made labels for me. I felt a little guilty because EVERYTHING in the artwork is some form of monarch butterfly. Supposedly they are already dead and aren't "killed" for the sake of art. I had a little...

Local markets

by cachaseiro

I would recommend that you buy things at the local markets whenevr you can.You get nice fresh produce there and you are also supporting some hardworking vietnamese people who earn very little money. You will find that the markets are almost entirely run by women as market work is considred a womans job in Vietnam. The markets are often very colorful and it´s also a great place to take photos, but please remember to not just take photos there, but also to shop a bit. That way they will keep being positive to foreign visitors and be happy to see tourists coming to the market. If all the tourist do is take photos, then they can often feel a bit like animals in a zoo, but if you buy some fruit or other produce from them, then they will be very happy and you will be a good ambassador for future tourists. food and drinks. very little.

Widely available: Remos - Vietnamese Mosquito repellant

by hcosgrave

Hi - Last year I brought serious anti mosquito sprays to S.E. Asia, bought from an adventure travel company in Ireland. They were "Lifeventure - 100+(deet)" and "Ben's - 30% (deet)"When I wanted to use them I found the Lifeventure product was so strong it burnt my skin badly. The "Bens" was usuable but still a little uncomfortable. This may be due to my skin being softened from many daily swims or made more sensitive by the sun or anti-malerials (Doxycycline). They were also very expensive in Ireland. No other anti-mosquito preparation ever affected me adversely like this on past trips.Well I met an Englishman, married to a Vietnamese lady & living permanently on Phu Quoc island. He was using and recommended a Vietnamese made repellant called REMOS - (phun suong 60ml). It is made under licence from a Japenese pharmaceutical company, and seems to be available everywhere. It's also very...

Binh Thay: Binh Thay- Shopping Haven

by charmaine.bautista

Everything you can possibly look for in Vietnam is here. From lacquer slippers, to bags (handmade and branded), native delicacies, clothes and everything else. They have it here and if you think Ben Thanh is cheap, this is cheaper! Traverse all the isles and you'll find very interesting stuff. Bring a calculator for you to compute USD conversion. I tried the spring roll that an ambulant vendor is selling and that was one of the best I've tried in Vietnam. Wonderful chopping place! Will definitely go back. :-)

NSilk Tailor Made: Tailor Made Clothes - Hanoi

by cafank

A nondescript small shop in the old city and this is where I ended up having quite a few clothes made to measure. The quality was great and everything (shirts, pants, one dress) fitted well and have lasted well. Silk is a specialty but be careful and make sure you know the difference between silk and polyester - the "Vietnamese silk"!I also had a few linen items made. The staff were great - all women and very helpful with designs, though they didn't have a great choice. This shop is not like the big places in Hoi An - not as elaborate and not the variety but I was happy. They also have ready made clothes, pyjamas's, dresses etc. I was also able to get real silk sleeping sheets here - at about $10.00 each - they too have lasted very well through many trips.... Pay what you think is right - shop around first to get an idea of prices...and then bargain

A Dong Silk: Tailor made Heaven in Hoi ann

by lindyz

Hoian is renowned for being the best place in Vietnam to get your tailor made clothing done. We were recommended to go to this shop A Dong Silk, whilst it may have been slightly more expensive than some other shops, it was worth it. Attention to detail, cloth quality and timing were perfect. If you have a favourite clothing item, just take it in to them and they will match it perfectly in any material you desire. I had 2 pairs of pants and a kimono made up and it cost $83AUD, that is 3 years ago, so prices may be a little bit higher now. As I mentioned, A Dong Silk will make up any item of clothing you desire, and they have thousands of materials to choose from - actually too many choices!!!
