Ben Thanh Markets

by lindyz

This place is HUGE. The stalls which are on the outside of the markets (ie. its an indoor market, but I mean the ones around the outside of the building) are set price stalls. Its only when you go further inside that it becomes more hectic and you have to put your bargaining skills into practice! Good fun and great shopping, although very hot, sweaty and tiring. We bought our HUGE suitcases here on our first day in HCMC.I cant remember the location of these markets but they are the biggest in HCMC and very central. Ask anyone and they will direct you. Anything you want!!

Tax Centre: Air conditioned shopping

by lindyz

This is an indoors department style shopping centre, which is air conditioned, so it is a welcome change from the heat. Some stalls/shops are set price, but others are negotiable. We spent a lot of time here as well, as it was only about a 5 minute walk from the Duxton. Pretty much - anything you want!!!Plus they have some good eating there as well.

We purchased some of the most beautiful paintings, they are brilliant artist, I just wish I had a photo of all my children with me as they copy photos, I could have had a beautiful portrait done - next time for sure. I also lots of tea sets as gifts they were great for Grandparents. We also had clothes made - Jackets and so on really clever at how quick they get cloths made. The most amazing wedding dresses. I think when my daughter is planning on getting married I’m going to take her there for her wedding dress at a fantastic price...

Marble shops: A statue of Ho for the mantelpiece

by iwys

25 km north of Hoi An there are numerous marble shops clustered at the foot of the Marble Mountains. Most of the Sinh Cafe and Kim Cafe buses stop here for half an hour. If you are looking for a souvenir a bit more substantial than a t-shirt, you can buy your marble statuettes of Ho Chi Minh here. Fancy a pair of marble lions for your front gate? The local dogs will love them, but they'd be hard to fit into a suitcase.

Dong Xuan Market: Dong Xuan Market

by hamgu77

In this market you can find alot of stuffs, as it is mainly a whole sale market!Alot of business going on everyday in this markets, the locals go to this market to buy goods in bundle back to their shop to sell, it is about 4 story high, selling staffs from ladies fashion to children's cloths local handicrafts stationeries, ladies shoes , mens shoe, children's shoe , lingeries, households items and bags ...etc. Some dealer will over charge you, if you find the price is unreasonable, don't buy it. Click ' 1 more photo' to see what i have bought from there :) I 've bought some stone boxes. I believe i got it at good price.

Ben Than Market: Shopping Haven?

by bojomacaraig

Ben Than Market is the oldest market in Saigon wherein you can shop and eat. In Vietnam, you can buy at low low prices. But some items specially branded clothes and bags are imitated. It s hard to find the original one in this market. so Beware of that. you should know what is fake and what is original. Clothes, bags, craft, fruits and vegetable.

markets: "strange" fruits

by call_me_rhia

The best shopping you can do in Vietnam is in markets... each town has at least one local market, often more than one. They are cheap, colourful and fun - and a great way to mingle with locals, in particular those not connected with the tourism business. Buy fruits... all sorts of fruits, especially those you have never seen - and eat them. Local fruits are delicious and healthy, and some are really bizarre. Coming from the west I found the dragon fruit to be the most "photogenic", although not the best one in taste. Very little - but haggle a bit

Hoáng Long: Get yourself a new pair of glasses

by Boerresen

Hoáng Long is one of a billion opticians in Saigon, we went to him by recommendation, but I'm certain that many of the others are equally straight not to mention quick. If you don't bring the prescription from your own optician - he'll just test your 'old' glasses and examine your vision. It takes one or two days till the new specs are ready. I was very happy with the result. The frames I liked were $20 - 30 - I'm sure there are less and more expensive. I went berserk and ordered 3 pair - including quality lenses it set me back $120.

Vietnam Quilts: Hand Made Cotton/Silk Quilts

by juliezzz

Vietnam Quilts at www.vietnam-quilts.org are a Not for Profit org. who employ poor rural women in quilt making. This initiative alleviates poverty and allows the women to work in all weather conditions from home with/out children etc. The shop has a great range of product, staffed by local and an Australian volunteer Sue, who will help you with your selection & choice of fabric from their huge workshop upstairs. We purchased two ready made quilts and ordered two more. Fantastic quality & great price - website doesn't do them justice. I highly recommend. From contemporary styled silk/traditional white cotton/country or ethnic minority style quilts- they have something for every taste. My boyfriend, who literally groaned when I suggested this diversion, fell in love with a Hmong natural dyed & hand woven one off, was first to pull out his wallet. They also do lovely silk throws and baby...

Coconut toffees: Homemade products

by iwys

Vietnam is still nowhere as near sophisticated as the other "Asian Tigers", like Japan, Korea and Malaysia. So the best things to buy are not electrical goods, but local handicrafts and foodstuffs. Handmade coconut toffees are excellent value.
