DaVinci in Vietnam

by cloudklk

There is just too many things to list it down.....Custom made leather shoes, jacket and for the ladies, probably you would like to have the Vietnamese ladies blouse. And for those who loves art, here is cheaper than Bali! (Hoi An is the place you should visit) And dont forget handicraft work is good in here too. For whatever price offered to you, you have to negotiate. In the suburd area, people are more friendly and nice as compare to the city such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.Mineral water (big bottle) cost about US$0.50 (Viet Dong$7,000). Backpacker hotel US$8/nite/room for twin sharing and without breakfast (with attached bathroom). You can still get a lower rate which is slightly further than the city/town.

First Choice: Service with a smile

by steven1117

Non-descript, nothing fancy, kind of plain. Selection of low-priced casual shirts and pants, quality average, but some good jeans at the back, and a few nice shirts and long jackets. I bought a pair of "Diesel"jeans, nice shiny sporty "Boss" shirt, (shown) full-length winter jacket in microfibre, and a "Swiss Army" small suitcase for 150 USD total. The salesperson, after my lament that I had bought so many things in Hanoi that I needed a suitcase said, "I'll be right back!" The sister shop a few doors down sells luggage as well. Problem solved. His name is Dong, (pictured) and he speaks English very well, and is quite personable. There was a minor glitch when the jeans I tried on had the button snap, but he took them upstairs to a tailor and they fixed them. I had to go while they were doing that, so he had them delivered to my hotel! see above.

Many Vendors, Ben Thanh Market, Saigon: Ben Thanh Market, Saigon

by steven1117

There are hundreds of vendors under one roof, selling a variety of goods, from clothing for men, women, and children, as well as bags, jewelry, coffee, shoes, gifts, fruits, vegetables, etc. Generally speaking, Vietnam is a good place to shop for silks and linens. The prices are reasonable and the quality is quite good. For example, a short-sleeved linen shirt should cost around 15.00 USD, around 15-20 USD for long-sleeved, and custom-made linen dress pants around 20.00 USD. Jeans, around 10 USD. I did most of my shopping in Hanoi, so I can't vouch for Saigon, but I wouldn't expect that there would be much difference, if any.

Nice tea sets, plates and wood carvings

by StephanB

This was a small local shop in Hoi An, very close to the riverfront. They had a number of very nice tea sets and ceramic plates. we bought a ton from this guy. He was so nice, and not pushy, that we wanted to spend money at his shop. He took care of all the shipping, and even let us fill our containers with things from other shops around town. We got to know his family well by the end of our stay in Hoi An. The wood carvings in Vietnam were much cheaper than inThailand, Cambodia or Malaysia. I bought a few nice pieces from one of the shops in the old town. You might find things a little cheaper in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh, but the experience and the people were nicer in Hoi An. Full tea sets (nice cearmic) with tray for about $8 US. Wood pieces went from $10 up to the hundreds. I spent around $150 for 5 pieces. Two pretty good sized carvings and the rest small to medium.

Hanoi Market

by JohnnyGlobal

The Hanoi Market is not as good as the Saigon Market. You can find everything here under the sun too, you just have to hunt around more. However, I recommend doing most of your shopping in the Old Quarter. There are actual shops there that have better quality.

Ben Thanh Market: Saigon Shopping

by MickeH

If there is anything you need to buy in Saigon then you will find at least five people trying to sell it to you at Ben Thanh Market. Clothes, watches, food, souvenires, anything goes. The prices are off course higher than any sane man would pay so it's patience time. Haggle, haggle, haggle! Genuine copies of Rolex and other exclusive watches.Maybe a silk sleeping bag?Anything your heart desires.

Tuyet Hoa: Very good and cheap tailor

by raphaellecrevet

I shopped around several tailors (including Yali which didn't imress me much). I was very imressed with quality of the satin dress i got made, and also a copy of a dress i bought, which had a special design printed and they managed to copy it. No need for fittings either, it all fitted extrelemy well!A tip valid everywhere you go (also for shoe makers) ask them to do the trimmings with the same colour, i ened up in another shop having white trimmings on a red tee-shirt! 7 dollars for a dress

A Dong Silk: Great Tailor in Hoi An

by meccostaud

Two shops in Hoi An; the first is a small shop on a street filled with similar stores. They have a much larger, brightly lit store around the corner that literally has thousands of types of fabrics, any style and type you can imagine. A bonanza for men and women who love clothes. The ladies of A Dong were friendly, helpful, and great businesspeople. They even put us on the backs of their motorbikes and drove us to their other store so we could pick out even more fabrics! The manager's name is Huong, a lovely lady that took very good care of us.We had suits, dress shirts, wool winter coats, and duvet covers made. This place is the shopping event horizon of southeast Asia. Suits, shirts, robes, anything you can imagine. We paid about $130.00US for a men's two-piece suit of very high quality material.

Bloom Home Collection: Custom furniture or interior decorations

by Kudos

It's just a small shop but it has a variety of items that you would just love to have in that small corner of your home or office. It has custom made furniture, lighting, glass vase in all shapes, artificial flowers so real that some people ask how much should they water them, and other knick knacks (terrible sentence..). prices are some what higher than the market vendors, but then again you'll wont find the items for sale elsewhere much less the market.

Chill out at a food stall

by steevie_wanders

Wander Hanoi's Old Quarter, taking in numerous shopping streets selling anything and everything. When the rain showers come, duck into a pavement cafe or food stall and relax while people in inflatable rain coats ride past.
