clothes in Hoi An

by meneqvist

And for men as well!! It's not just one shop, it's all the shops! There are so many and you can get exactly what you want. But I do recommend Mr Xe for buying clothes and Vu An at the Hoi An market if you'd like to buy shoes. Quality and good services. And cheap!! Clothes, shoes, CD's, DVD's It depends on how much room you got in your bag!!

Markets, bartering

by Maximilian21

From experience i have found that it is slightly more difficult to barter down in Vietnam. In saying this i found the quality of the good to be better. I purchased some great get up for rock bottom prices. I guess i couldnt exatcly barter down a Prada leather jacket for $50. Tjhe shop attendents are also more likely to tell you to go get stuffed if you offer them ridiculous prices.

Ben Thanh Market, HCMC

by manil51

In Ben Thanh Market , you will find practically every staple commodity imaginable. If consumerism offers intimate glimpses of how people live, wandering among the tiny, packed stalls here will give you some unique insights into modern Vietnamese life. The food court here has delicious and very tasty local specialties. Produce, flowers, and meats are sold on the sidewalks surrounding the building.

Shopping for photos too

by richiecdisc

Vietnam’s colorful markets are not only a great place to pick up local produce but also to people watch and snap priceless photos of local life. Local fruits are always a great choice as often they are not available back home and if they are, they certainly cost a lot more. Dragon fruit is a magenta sight to behold that tastes a bit like kiwi. We got three dragon fruits for a dollar when in Munich, one cost about twenty-five euros!

The migranted old Chinese leads me there: Chinese Lantern

by we2364

I have a chance to meet a migranted old Chinese man in Hoi An. Of course, he feels surprise that I travel alone here. And we have a very joyful conversation, and in Chinese. He talked to me by memorizing the immigration time of his family and his hometown in China. And then he warmly welcomes me to visit his house and thus brings me to this lovely lantern shop which his whole family makes the life from it. He never ask me to buy anything but to take a look. It's pity that I have my bag fully packed when I am already on a very tight budget. Otherwise I would love to buy some from this shop. Next time, I will! All kinds of lovely lanterns.Normally we hang lanterns during the festival time in the Chinese custom. Quite cheap

Vietnam souviners

by MParent

The big "unique" souviners to purchase in Vietnam are:Laqureware - we liked the eggshell laqureware and actually bought a few small pieces. They actually glue broken eggshells onto wood and color them to make a picture. Some were cheesy-looking but if you can find a classy one, buy it - I'd never seen anything like it before.Hand embroidered art - it is sold everywhere. We found it cheapest to ask to buy the embroidery without the frame - easier to pack and get home.Stoneware - I found some nice marble pieces at the stone village. Most places bargin...make sure you at least try to. We found that the raise prices very high when they see foreign tourists - I think many tourists have paid way too much and now they think we all will.

Hoi An Tailors

by Tamiandaiden

When in Hoi An - Be prepared to buy clothes! The tailors are excellent and are much better values than in Hanoi. However, if you get tired of touts we found it helped to say we were leaving that night so had no time to be fitted! - Just make sure they don't spot you again! :) Don't pay more than $25 US a suit

The Software Piracy Capital of the World

by MikeAtSea

Shops are all over Saigon - Bill Gates would not be the happiest person to visit Vietnam. Here you are able to buy every imaginable computer program, in all languages and from every software producer around the world - it is probably the piracy capital of the world. And a program here sells for around US$ 0.50

Sapa Market

by windsorgirl

A visit to one of the very colourful markets in Vietnam is a must. It is a great place to pick up fresh fruit for a quick breakfast or snack. Quite often you will see some unusual items for sale that you have probably never seen before. It is also common to see large baskets full of tiny ducklings or baby chicks and lastly, the photo opps are endless!
