SAIGON SAIGON: A Club with a View

    View from Saigon Saigon

The coolest thing about this joint is that it's situated in the joint I was putting up at ( Caravelle Hotel ). Figured I could just stagger back to my room if I get pissed drunk. But that's hardly possible with a protective husband so I'll go on to the next good point: Saigon Saigon has one of the best views in the city. It's on a floor even higher than the watering hole at the top of Rex Hotel so you can see for miles around. Go there early and ask for a seat beside the balcony. Chill out and just listen to the live band as you see the going ons at night.

SAIGON SAIGON: the ultimate open air bar

The Saigon Saigon Bar is located inside the posh Caravelle Hotel, on an open-air terrace on the 9th floor... Take the elevator on the right side of the hall as you enter the hotel, the elevator on the left side leads to the hotel rooms, and is of no use for the bar.

The bar is exceptional... not only for the panoramic night views, but for the breeze... even when it's roasting hot at ground levels, up there it's wonderfully cool... it tends to be on the expesinve side, so you'll only find rich HCM residents and crowd (about 50/50 I would say), but it's very pleasant.

Plenty of drinks and cocktails, and there's a live band, too - nothing too impressive... One really comes here for the views, not for the music.

Dress Code: Casual is fine... smart casual is better...

Celebration view from Saigon Saigon Bar

Even those on a budget need to splurge occasionally on holiday. It`s well worth putting a few dollars away and spending it in the Saigon Saigon bar of the Caravelle Hotel. I had read a few reviews before my trip and knew I just had to try it out.
On the ninth floor of the hotel and open to three sides I expected good views but fortunately for me I happened to be there on the 30th anniversary of the end of the ( American ) war so on a stage at street level below was a concert of celebration located between the Opera House and The Continental Hotel, an extra bonus.
I was told that it was an expensive place but I found the prices to be on a par with a typical pub back home in the UK so I was very happy. For a top end hotel I found the atmosphere to be very relaxed and smart casual wear seemed to be typical of the clientele.

    SAIGON SAIGON: Open Air Bar

Located in the Caravelle Hotel, this is a lively spot for live music, dancing and people watching. Don't expect A/C. It is an open air bar. We ordered drinks called Saigon Saigon and they were large and yummy.

    Dress Code: Dress well.

SAIGON SAIGON: View from the Top

Have a seat in their terrace (whole exterior of the bar) and enjoy the panoramic view of the well-lit Opera House, Rex Hotel, City Hall and Notre Dame Cathedral. Only amorous couples sit in the terrace while groups of friends can sit inside the bar. It has an airy feel to it because of the large wooden windows which opens up to the terrace and those ceiling fans.
When I was there, the band played Latino and old songs.

Dress Code: Club wear. Remember this is a 5-star hotel.

    SAIGON SAIGON: Saigon Saigon Revisited

by kidfree Updated May 4, 2007 84 reviews

After my first visit in 2005 I was looking forward to enjoying a drink and the view from this popular bar.
The bar is still a great hangout, there is still a cool breeze, the staff are still attentive, the houseband is still one of the best in town and the drinks are still pretty expensive by Saigon standards but so what?
There used to be on one side a great view down Le Loi and over to the Rex hotel but unfortunately the new Opera View building is almost completed and really spoils one of the best after dark vistas in the whole of the city which is a real shame.
Never mind, Saigon is changing and so is the skyline, progress is progress even if we dont always agree that it is for the best, I shall still go back and enjoy a cold one on my next visit

Dress Code: Still smart but casual

Yes, we did the Saigon tour. Staying in Saigon, going to Saigon Saigon Bar and drinking Saigon Special Beer (USD 5). The Bar is in the Caravelle Hotel, giving you a great view over Saigon. They also have live music.

Nice romantic place to view HCMC at night from the rooftop of Caravelle Hotel. They have a live band and this is definitely a happenning place where locals and foreigners meet and unwind. A place for people watching and be seen.

Dress Code: I did not see anyone with shorts or slippers. Jeans and T-shirt are fine.

  • SAIGON SAIGON: Romantic But Pricey

by Cavsrule Written Nov 13, 2006 9 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I've been to Saigon Saigon a couple of times but never stayed to listen to the band (they have one inside). The outside terrace area is quiet and romantic with oil candles - a great place to meet your date for a drink before heading out to dinner. The drink prices are very high for HCMC (5-star hotel prices) so I wouldn't recommend staying for more than a couple. The view isn't so astounding as I see in the other reviews and you can't see anything if you're sitting down, anayways. Just think dark, romantic and pricey and you'll get the ambiance...

Dress Code: I wouldn't feel comfortable here in shorts and a T-shirt, more like high-end casual like club attire.

Save money and go to SAIGON SAIGON, very cute and it has a wonderful open air cafe in the 11th floor, but it is expensive, like a 50 times more than a normal bar in the street. Live music is fine...and lot of business people open to talk with you.
