THE UNDERGROUND BAR : its around since 2000 , its time has gone , it once was a time filler in the early days of hcmc nightlife but to be honest hcmc bar & nightclub scene has moved on and passed out this early relic.
leaving the underground bar you feel more depressed than when you entered it.
the underground bar : does not have a good vib , it feels depressing , i dont know where all these packed patrons are i have dropped in and out of this place from 2000 to 2009 , but same same , customer base seem to be the odd tourist and oldie expats with travolta complex & 22 year oldgirlfriend , generl croud numbers at any time i have seen is 3 to 12 customers.
maybe next year they will forego painting the bar floor black & actualy put some flooring in.
there are plenty of stylish , modern , comfortable places to visit now , just ask any local for suggestions and you wont go wrong.
the underground was always overpriced even during the early days ,
you can get more bang & enjoyment for your dong elsewhere just get out of dong khoi and you will find 20 good places with in a 5 minute taxi ride .
enjoy hcmc experience :
hcmc has a great cafe & coffee shop culture for both eating & chilling.
there are also nice beer gardens
bars are good in hcmc
dont waste you money in bars on foodf there are hundreds of great eateries around you
when travelling around the city stick to the yellow or green and white taxis they are best for value , more so at nightime
The Underground is always a place for me to visit at least once when in HCMC and is a very popular expat hangout. The staff is great, the beer icy cold and the food is tasty. I love their pizza and have heard their barbecue buffet is great (maybe next time). Place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights so if you are planning to hang out there on the weekend, get there early to get a table.
Dress Code:
Totally casual dress - anything from sandals, shorts and tee shirt on up.
One of the busiest places in town, right in the middle of Dong Khoi. Not just a bar, does great food, especially lunches and a good sunday morning hangover cure breakfast. Lots of specials on drinks and often packed at the weekends.
Next door to the Lucky Plaza on Dong Khoi Street you will find the Saigon Underground. This is a great place - had many Tiger Beers here. The crowd was friendly. Also looked like they did a mean steak.
Dress Code:
Casual
Underground Bar and Grill is one of the most popular hangouts among expats. Not only do they provide a full bar, but good food too! A great place to socialize, watch your favorite sporting events, or play a game of pool or darts.
Dress Code:
You can wear anything in most places, but you might want to dress a little better than the typical backpacker for this place.
mostly frequented by expats and foreign tourists.
average price for beer would be 25,000dong so that would be less than 2USD.
