Out of Saigon - Cao Dai Temple: A ceremony like no other!
The Cao Dai Temple experience is a bit touristy but at the same time its a brilliant display of color in a religious ceremony that little is known about. Also it was strange to see many temples that had swastikas on them. Someone told me that the symbol meant fertility but who knows. You will find yourself get a little upset however if you are a person who believes strongly in respecting other's cultures because you will find that the many tourists during the temple ceremony are loud and rude.

Out of Saigon - Cao Dai Temple: Unique Architecture
The Magnificant Cao Dai See Temple is located in the Tay Ninh Province and what wows me was the large area of the temple ground. The roads looked clean and well maintained. The building looked a little "old school" but definitely outstanding with it's unique architecture, bright colours and a ceiling with painting that try to replicate the sky.

Can Gio Beach
The beach at Can Gio is the only beach within the city limits of Ho Chi Minh City. The beach is comprised of hard-packed mud so it is not one of the best in Vietnam. However, it is a good place to mingle with the locals and you will most certainly be free of the western tourists. This is a good place to buy fresh seafood from the vendors on the beach.

To get to Can Gio you head 60 km SE from downtown HCMC. Travel time is about 3 hours. Two ferry crossings need to be taken to reach the island that it sits on (around $0.20 per ferry).

Out of Saigon - Cao Dai Temple: You Little Tunnel Rat!
The title was not meant to be anything derogatory, but the Viet Congs were much feared by the Amercian soldiers as they did not know where the Viets would be and after a swift attack, where they'd dissappear to.

This was a massive problem for the Amercians as the Viet Cong was just at the backyard of Saigon. Located at Cu Chi (Pronounced as Ku Chee), the tunnels stretched for kilometres and the thing the makes me shake my head in amazement was the fact that the Viet Congs were such a hardy group of people.

I walked through the tunnel for just a couple of minutes and I was already wondering when I'd be out of it. Can you imagine the Vietnamese people living in the tunnel structure for years?

Worth taking a walk, I mean crawl through the tunnel. You might like to fit into the little hole as well. I have a size 32 waist and it just fitted nicely with not much room for maneuvouring.

Entry Fee: 70,000VND

Mekong: Mekong Delta tour
There are tons of tour agencies offering trips to Mekong Delta, and I picked the recommended Sinh Cafe by the other tourists on VirtualTourist.com.

Whole day trip. Wear something light, and get something to change if you plan to go somewhere else after this trip, coz the trip will make u all sweaty and sticky. :P

River was yellowish at the time we were there (August 2006). The guide said the river would be clearer at the start of the year.

There were quite a number of older folks within the congregation. But there were also the young ones that were raising their voices and music to their Gods. What caught my eye was this little boy that was barely 10 years of age but was already in their musical instrument team.

Mekong: Rowing a Boat in Qui Son Canal
We were brought to the Quoi Son Canal where the boats lay awaiting - Four persons per boat - as we were told. Jac and I got into the boat with a French couple. It's these interesting rides with no where to go that you get to speak to people from various countries. It was interesting to hear from the couple about France and about the history of the lady who shared that she was actually born in Vietnam but left with her parents when she was three months old.

The four of us, together with our boatman, went down the canal for about 30 minutes. Very serene with the only sound coming from the peddle meeting the water.

    Zoologitacal & Botanical Garden
Well, if you are sick with all the motorcycle people trace at you for a ride, or the people ask you for foot massage. You can choose the garden to go. That is the most relax place I found ( except my hotel swimmming pool ) in HCM City. Entry fee is 8000 local dollar, which is about USD4. Normally, the park is quiet, and very relax to walk around. Lots of animals and green that you can see. I enjoy it very much. You need to call a taxi to go there, cost about 2500 local currency. History museum and HTV Tower is beside the park. You can spend up 2 hours here.
