    Again, you can find the same stuff at most markets so I will mention about Ben Thanh market because I found some reasonably priced items that I liked

    Forget about the fake Gucci or Vuitton bags, the locally made stuff are much better and don't look tacky. I'm talking about the beautiful fabric bags made of silk, either embroidered or beaded with hundreds of colorful sequins & glass beads. They look more exotic than a tacky-looking fake Coach bag Another item worth buying are the beautifully laced cotton bedsheets that come in soft colors & many tasteful designs. These are made with 100% cotton and are nice for your own use or as gifts for mom Silks are a also worthwhile buy in Vietnam. You can get 100% silk kimono pyjamas or blouses for good prices Remember, the more you buy, the more discounts the sellers will give

    Those lovely beaded or silk bags start at US$1 (small). My friend bought the lovely bedsheets (king size) for US$15 and I got a silk kimono pyjama for US$10. Maybe someone else can get these for less but I thought the price was fair

    You can find almost anything in here. Just about anything. The key is only to bargain, and bargain. **Be careful of pickpockets. Put your money on a small purse for easier transaction.

    1. One pair of fridge magnet less than Dong 10,000. 2. One set of lacquerware less than Dong 90,000. 3. Wine holder (lacquerware) from Dong 30,000 to 40,000. 4. Various statue of Vietnamese girls in Ao Dai from Dong 10,000.

  • Everybody who goes to Saigon usually goes to Ben Thanh Market. They go either to just have a look and see if all the fuss is worth while or to try and spot that one off bargain of a lifetime. Yes it does have just about everything you might be interested in as a tourist and there are some real bargains to be had, I felt particularly in clothing but they are in varying degrees of quality. If you are not used to bargaining you wont get the best deals. As it is mainly enclosed it does get very hot but you can get a drink inside or something to eat as well. If you are lucky enough to befriend a local like I was and they are happy to go shopping with you let them bargain for you as they will get much better prices. You will likely get a better price as well using the local dong rather than dollars although prices are cheap anyway compared to europe.

    The amount of goods is amazing, clothes, furniture, food, and spices. Beware the spices area. It is fairly big and the mixed smells from the spice can be overwhelming.

    The tower of this market has served as one of the symbols of Saigon since 1914. Everything that your typical Saigonese person uses, wears, or eats can be found in this place. "Come on down! If you want it, we've got it!" Stalls nearby sell inexpensive food.

    You'll probably pay a little bit more here than at other markets. A good rule is that you should pay at least 50% of the quoted price for an item without a price tag.

    After visiting Ben Thanh and An Dong, going to Binh Tay Market should not be a neccessity at all if you're looking to buy more local discounted items. Of course you should visit the place to see it's architecture, and also to experience how the Vietnamese people go through their daily lives. There are also nice little shops surrounding the market. But looking from the other side of the spectrum, Binh Tay Market is more chaotic than An Dong Market, and the shopholders are not too desperate for your business and thus would not try to court you to buy their items. Some may even display signs to say that their items are all fixed price. No chance for discount.

    Anything you can buy in Ben Thanh, you can buy at Binh Tay too.
