The War Remnants Museum was formerly known as the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes. Today, it is a museum frequent by Western tourists. Many of the atrocities not reported in the media can be found here.

At the museum, you will be greeted with lots of photo galleries, depicting the horrors of the war - not only the Vietnameses but also the Americans. It was heart-breaking to see the pain and tears the victims have to go through for this war.

When I was there, I saw many Americans taking their own time to read all the writings on the photographs. I could see their sadness in their eyes. This is a truly good educational tour - something that you would not read much about in your history textbooks.

Rex Hotel: The Rex Hotel -- Where history was reported
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Rex Hotel was a center of activity during the Vietnam War as it was the favorite hotel of the military brass, which meant the journalists weren't far behind. It is very elegant and a great place for a nostalgic drink on the rooftop terrace.

Ben Thanh market: Ben Thanh Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • The market is located right in middle of QUAN 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. The round about in front of the market is almost a must-pass for most tourists in order to access to various museums and other city attractions.

You can find thousands of super small lots that selling almost everything money can buy. Of course do not expect superior quality for the money you paid for the goods & services.

War Remnants Museum: War Remnants Museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • This museum featured some of the cruelest chapters in Vietnam War history. Everyone who enters the museum will utterly confuse of who is right & who is wrong when war is breaking out.

Be prepare for pictures that never been shown to public and bring along your own tissue papers. You might need them.

Mekong Delta: Boat Trip - MEKONG DELTA
  • Tip Rating:
  • We took the USD10/pax which included lunch. The trip was pretty enjoyable. Nothing much to see. We went to the coconut candy making "location", the candy was great....we bought a couple back. Tried the snake wine...which taste like brandy! But it was "powerful"...i.e. liquour content.

To book, go to Delta Adventure Tours at De Tham. Or go to De Tham and book the tours. Don't book from the hotels.
Prices for the Mekong Delta tour starts from USD7 onwards (depending how intensive you want).

Well I can now say I'm a professional Jay Walker!! I'm sure you've heard all about the crazy traffic of Ho Chi Minh and how it's a feat in itself to actually cross a road and make it to the other side in one piece! Well, ...we did it!! ....and I actually enjoyed it!! And thanks to all your tips here on vt I actually knew how to do it before hand.
Easy,....just walk out from the curb slowely and keep walking and the bikes all go around you. .....Just make sure you cross when there's no taxis or trucks in sight :o)

The History Museum was built in 1929 and called "Musée Blanchard de la Bosse" until 1956.
It has an excellent collection of artefacts illustrating the evolution of Vietnam, from the Bronze-Age Dong Son civilisation (13 BC - 1AD) and the Oc-Eo (Funan) civilisation (1-6 AD), to the Chams, Khmers and Vietnamese. There are valuable relics taken from Cambodia's Angkor Wat.
There is a research library about Indochina.

The entry fee is 15000dongs (~US$1). This used to be the Presidential Palace of the defunct South Vietnamese government and the Communists had virtually left the place intact as it was on that fateful day in 1975 when the tanks of the victorious Northern Vietnamese forces came crashing through the gates and the last bastion of American presence was scrambling away at the rooftop in their helicopters. See time frozen at that moment and walk through the opulence of the many stately rooms. See the many pictures capturing the work of the South Vietnamese government and its ultimate failure.

Notre Dame Cathedral: Duc Ba Church
  • Tip Rating:
  • This cathedral also known as Notre Dame Cathedral, situated in Paris Square, in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

The neo-Romanesque architecture and its two 40m-high square towers tipped with iron spires dominate the Ho Chi Minh City's sky line.
