    This is not really about Ben Thanh Market, but about the night market that sprungs up after the normal market closes. At night, on the streets beside Ben Thanh Market, there are stalls selling foodstuff, and stalls selling bags, souvenirs etc. you can take a look. Not many people though.

    Ben Thanh market is an indoor market offering goods ranging from arts,crafts,souvenirs,tshirt to fake branded item.The seller here happily accept either Vietnam Dong or US Dollar.Some of the seller here take the initiative to learn some basic phrases of other languages,such as japanese and even Malay to attract tourist to their stall.You shall always bargain for good price and dont forget to have some sense of humor and smile. Some item worth looking at : beaded handbags,less than $5, seashell products less than $10 dollar, and many more. I bought 20 tshirts as souvenir to my friends. Guess how much was it? a dollar each!

    This is a must-go shopping destination... A place where you can find coffee, textiles, bags, shoes, clothes, foodstuffs, handicraft items, designer purses, luggages, scarves, etc.. The place is well organized and easy to follow. While they are open till the evening, it may be best for morning visit when activities are brisk. Your bargaining power must be very powerful.. Slash as much as possible... The price they charged are extremely high...

    Within the Ben Thanh Market there are many foodstalls at one end of the market. Here I found Vietnamese fare that was more traditional like what my Mom makes. A good rule of thumb is to look where the local Vietnamese sit to eat lunch and go there. Also after the market closes, many of the food stalls move outside to the street adjacent to the market. Here you won't find many tourists eating, but if you are brave enough I really recommend you eat out there because not only is the food awesome, its cheap.

  • Ben Thanh Market is known as Cho Ben Thanh in Vietnamese. A lot of things seel inside, it is a good place to get your souvenirs, but the price will be a little bit higher than Cho Lon. If you dont like shopping, try out the food. Deserts in Vietnam is just unique. I never tried these desert before and cant imagine how they have such idea to mix so many things.. fruits, jelly and noodles together.. in a glass. Some may want to get the vietnamese costume - ao dai ( pronounce as 'ao yai'), Ben Thanh market offer a good range of choices.

    I don’t think this statue located opposite the Ben Thanh Market has any significant* but just to decorate the street. Its right in front of the Ben Thanh Market, but Ben Thanh is quite a good spot to observe Vietnamese daily life. Note*: Correct me if I’m wrong.

    The tower surmounting this market building is the symbol for Saigon. Inside vendors peddle everything you'd ever want to buy. And a lot of things you'd probably not want to buy.
