    A very unique experience of undergound life during the Vietnam war. Ingenious booby traps and complex system of tunnels. If you're not claustrophobic, a definite must-try is the 50-m tunnel crawl to get a first-hand feel of an underground 'tunnel' experience.

    Finally got to Cu Chi tunnels, taking my 18 year old nephew, interesting in historic way. But the highlight still is letting of a few rounds of an AK (if your into that sort of thing.

    There were almost 200km of Viet-cong tunnels found in Cu Chi area off 70KM of Ho Chi Minh City during the peak of Vietnam War. This tunnel system represents the undaunted will, the intelligence and the pride of Cu Chi people.

    I am sure those that travel in Vietnam will visit Cu Chi. I guess you have never really been to Vietnam if you don't visit Cu Chi! Anyway, my Vietnamese friends brought me to Ben Dinh which is 50km Northwest of HCMC, I was told this place was less frequent by tourists but has more to offer. On top of visiting the tunnels, there is also a model village whereby you can pay a visit and understand the life of villagers outside of the city. The guide was good and patience and we had free Tapioca & Chinese Tea served to us during our tour. The other Cu Chi location is called Ben Duoc about 70km from HCMC. Note: Pls remember to drink lots of water, take your time, the place can be very dusty and humid. If you suffers from Asthma, high blood pressure, claustrophobic, pls do not attempt the tunnels, on whether you can squeezed thru...your guide will be able to tell.     During the American War, the VietCong built a series of tunnels just outside of Saigon. The tunnels were a real tactical success as they allowed the VietCong to live and travel safely very near to the southern capital. And here my friend try his skill to enter the Tunnel....almost can't come out from the tunnel...hahahahaha...

    I had seen and read about the Cu Chi trip and was eager to go and experience it for myself. I booked the trip just the evening before through Delta Adventure travel and I knew that at $4 dollars for a ticket it was a bargain On arrival we were ushered into a stuffy room to see old newsreels celebrating the various heroes of Vietnam who had been given titles such as American Killer Hero which I felt was a little unnecessary but I guess they can claim some sort of bragging rights. A lot of tours depend on the guide and the way he handles his group. Ours was very good if a little dramatic at times. To be honest he did get carried away with his own heroic efforts during the conflict and at the end of the tour I`m still unsure what side he fought on. It was obvious that most of the displays were mock ups rather than genuine leftovers of battles but what did strike me was the resilience and resourcefulness of the Vietnamese. Nothing that the French or Americans left was wasted, unexploded ordnance was reused and old tyres were made into long lasting sandals. The tunnels themselves while apparently being widened to accommodate tourists showed just how prepared the Vietnamese were to take the fight to whatever lengths were necessary to grind out victory and although the descent into the tunnels was described as the highlight of the trip I was not the only person grateful to exit early and very few souls managed the full hundred metres. I`m sure the highlight of the trip for most of the adult males was the opportunity to fire off a dozen or so rounds from an AK47, at a dollar a bullet it was fairly good value I guess as like most Englishmen I had never bought one before never mind held a rifle, it certainly got the adrenaline going and was a good way to end the trip. This is a good tour for those who want to get an insight of the French/American conflicts in Vietnam even if only from the Vietnamese perspective but the Vietnamese have a right to be proud of their achievements

    Amazingly, this tunnel system is approximately 250km long and was built over 25 years on hard clay with no specific plan or architecture intelligent .And all they use were hand tools It was an underground city with living areas,kitchen,weapons storage and so on. In some spots, it was even several stories deep and housed up to 10,000 people who virtually lived underground for years.... Of course the Americans knew the existence of the tunnel,so they (the Viet Congs) set up booby traps everywhere.They even have smoke filtering system from their underground kitchen to prevent from being tracked by the US army.

    This is one of the trap that they use for Vietnam war...inside of this trap all is bamboo with sharp shape, and when man fall into the trap, will suffer till death.

    Wax statues featured prominently on the tour. These figures were here to greet us and display the uniforms of the VietCong. Wish I can wear that cloths so maybe can't recognise me...:P
