Over-pricing: Binh Khoi Tourist Village
  • Tip Rating:
  • Over priced everything! I have to admit the scenery in the area is one of a kind in Saigon but tourists will definitely not get the feel of Vietnam.

Pham Ngu Lao is a better alternative!

  • Where ever you go take your passport with you! If you don't have it you may end up having no accommodation!

    Over-pricing: Saigon Trade
  • Tip Rating:
  • Avoid the coffee shop at the top of the most dominating building, at 33 stories, the Saigon Trade Center. Prices are quoted in USD and are absolutely ridiculous, for Vietnam standards. Heck, they're ridiculous for any budget traveller's standard!

    The money-thing: Duel Pricing
  • Tip Rating:
  • Don't be shocked when a foreigner gets charged much more than the locals. Vietnamese life is hard and they try to earn as much as possible even if they have to be dishonest. Remember, the average Vietnamese family most likely doesn't earn 200Usd a month. If you feel you are not being treated fair, just walk away from the purchase.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The phone bill after some calls out of Vietnam was horrible. So better send some emails if itīs not really a need to make a call.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Cyclo's charging too much. A common form of transport on Vietnam is the Cyclo. The generally charge about US$1 for every ride in Saigon no matter how far...as long as you are not going miles away.
The street taxis - normal meter taxis - are extremely cheap and you can lock the doors and windows and will usually get decent AC.
Personally I though the cyclos lost their appeal after the 2nd trip and the taxis are the same price or cheaper for most local rides....

Once known as the Museum of...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Once known as the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes, the name change reflects a desire not to offend wealthy tourists. The pamphlet handed out at reception pulls no such punches; it's entitled 'Some Pictures of US Imperialist Aggressive War Crimes in Vietnam'. Despite the rhetoric, this museum has become one of the most popular attractions with Western visitors of all political persuasions. It is a stark reminder that wars rarely have winners and are never glorious. Along with the many photographs, the museum displays US armoured vehicles, artillery pieces, bombs and infantry weapons. There is even a guillotine used by the French on pesky Viet Minh 'troublemakers'. Though certainly not an even-handed representation of events in Vietnam in the 1960s and 70s, the museum is nonetheless successful in driving home the fact that wars are brutal and that civilians are the biggest losers. The museum is a three minute walk north-west of the Reunification Palace in District 3, Central Saigon.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Again, this is a name card given to me by somebody pops-up from behind. U$5 to 10 for a room. So why not? This is not a trap but sometimes they come in in group and look very unfamiliar to me, so alway be careful.
