    For those travelers who really appreciate clothing, it might not be wise to bring your most valued articles to Vietnam. The sun, dust and dirt makes new items look used in a matter of days.     Situated relatively close to the equator, Saigon’s sun might be able to do a bit of damage to your precious eyes so do yourself a favor by bringing a good pair of sunglasses to protect yourself from the harmful ultraviolet rays. I personally brought 2 pairs myself but conveniently lost my favorite pair during an excursion to the Mekong and flawlessly stepping and disfiguring my second 2 days later. Sunglasses are widely sold in Saigon but make sure you purchase one from a highly reputable shop or just bring one from home!

  • Most local women in Saigon do not wear sleeveless tops or shorts during the daytime and on the streets. Despite the heat, they wear short sleeved or long sleeved tops, and long pants. If, like me, you prefer to try to fit in and not stick out like a tourist, bring lightweight short sleeved tops and 3/4 length or longer slacks.
