This post is on the update for my friend’s Crumpler bag shop in Saigon, HCMC.
If you have missed the earlier posts, what happened is this: Phi, a cool and very friendly chap, first opened a shop selling Crumpler bags in Saigon backpacker’s hostel area. This was when I did the 1st virtual tour of his venture. When a new collection of Crumpler bags came in a few weeks later, I went to do a 2nd virtual tour. Also went on to blog about it. He has since moved to a bigger space just 3 mins from the backpacker’s area by cab ride.

This is when this post comes in. The following are pictures of his new Crumpler bag shop in HCMC:

  • Cholon Markets: Colon Markets - Great value shopping

by mojopac Updated Nov 4, 2009

    Hi Betska,
The Saigon Saigon Bar at the Caravelle is terrific. You couldn't be blamed if you thought you saw Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet or Humphrey Bogart( for those who can remember) lurking in the shadows. Very atmospheric. Lovely bar and view, nice little Cuban combo bashing away.
I don't think I'm missing too much not going to Nha Trang.
Just been to the Cholon Markets in Chinatown.Unbelievable prices. Makes Ben Thanh market look like Harrods or Sax. Bit of a taxi ride from the Caravelle, but 10 USD return with waiting for us for 1 hour was good value. I even gave the driver 4 pairs of sports socks (around 80c a pair!)

What to buy: Anything you need. Handbag knockoffs, cheaper than Bangkok, clothes..anything it's amazing.

What to pay: 80c for sports socks, 4-6 USD for knockoff purses. 15 - 20 for similar bags.

  • Saigon Square: A Fantastic Place for Bargain Hunters

by whoooosh Written Dec 22, 2008

A short walk away from Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Square is popular with local youth for shopping. There are plenty of shops to choose from, and they all sell different clothes, mostly factory rejects from major international brands like MNG, Hollister and A&F. Be wary, though, of fakes. The sale bins have great finds at dirt cheap prices.

    What to pay: 20,000VND - 100,000VND

This market practically house everything in Saigon. If you are a tee shirt collector, this is THE place to get it. Not only tee shirt, hand bags, lotsa various junk food, antiques, local arts and much much more.

Losta tourist here as well. And everyone who gets in here will definitley spend spend spend. Which I did. Bargaining are a common thing. So shop and bargain for the fun of it. But just don't bargain too darn hard for saigon sake : )

Ben Thanh market: Ben Thanh market

It's the biggest market in HCMC and also a place that attracts many foreign tourists. Walk around outside the market and you can find some night market which sell the same thing as Ben Thanh market as a cheaper price provided you haggle for it.

If you do speak the language don?t worry as what happen to me when I want something I just ask ?how much? And all the shop keepers have a calculator and then will key in the price and show it to you. So then you bargain for the price that you want and it goes back and forth keying the price in the calculator until you both come to a mutual agreement of the best price.

The market is opened between 6:00am to 7:00pm daily.

What to buy: Almost everything is sold in this market like cloths, food, crafts, souvenirs, coffee, snake wine, utensils but it's also known as the most expensive market as many tourist visit this market. If you visit the market do haggle to have a bargain.

What to pay: from less then US1.00 and above

Market: Ben Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City

Even though there are numerous shops scattering the city, the most popular shopping area is around Ben Thanh Market. The market is obviously not a modern shopping complex
