when shopping (esp at the markets) some of the shopkeepers will quote exorbitant prices way above the value of the item initially, so it's very important that you know the worth of what you are buying and bargain accordingly. for example, i wanted buy cotton, and was quoted 60,000VND. i eventually got the cloth for 14,000VND. however, don't try to get ridiculously low prices either as they won't try to retain you if they don't think the deal is worth chasing.
