I was greatly immpressed.
200 km of tunnels is situated about 1 and a half hours drive from Saigon. It was a place of fierce resistance against the Americans in a place called Chu Chi near Cholon.
There you get to walk into the tunnels, which are unbelieavable tight at times as well as seeing how the vietcong lived and fought during the war.
If your American prepare not to come away to joyfull. The museum and the subsequant videos shown are not to light on their disdain for the americans and thier "imperialistic war" Leave a Comment

It is definately not very touristy and i think some of the only foreigners on the train. At times i did feel a bit alien and people would stare at you as if you where in the zoo. They seemed to warm up though when i brought out my digital camera and i passed it around for people to see.
It cost me about $50 one way. not to cheap but considering it encompassed the whole of the country giving me the opportunity to sit back and see it all i thouught it was well worth it.
If you go ,make sure to get soft class, i was stingy and chose hard class and after 30 hours i had had enough. Leave a Comment

You must purchase a ticket, wait in line and enter in single file. To see him is a very solemn occasion, no cameras, no improper dress, no hats and no talking! The guards will advise you if they feel you have too much skin showing, so be prepared and bring along a jacket.
Who was Ho Chi Minh?
Ho Chi Minh, was born Nguyen Tat Thanh in 1890 and lived a modest life in Hue with his family. He worked briefly as a teacher first, then worked aboard a French sailing ship and travelled to America, Europe and Africa. He lived in London and Paris and learned at least 5 different languages. While in Paris, he was a member of the French Communist Party. He was sent to Moscow for training and eventually founded the Vietnamese Communist Party. He returned to Vietnam in 1941 and after 15 years of battle, finally led the country to victory over the French who had ruled Vietnam since1859. Ho Chi Minh was president of North Vietnam from 1946 until his death in 1969. He never married and had no children. His tomb is a site of pilgrimage for the Vietnamese who view Ho as their liberator from colonialism. Leave a Comment
