Thing not to do - Bonsai River Cruise

by Marthamaire

I am at a loss to understand any good reviews for this cruise. I paid $36 for a "cruise" that consisted of going up and down a portion of the Saigon River where the most exciting thing was the sight of another tourist cruise boat passing. I was the first person to board the boat and as a single, I was taken to a table as far from the entertainment stage as one could get. When the couple next to me lit up cigarettes, I asked to be moved. Once again, I was taken to a table far from the entertainment right next to the bar. When a couple two tables from me lit up cigarettes, I asked the waitress if there was a non smoking section. Not only did she say there was not, she got nasty with me. The German couple sitting to my right jumped into the conversation to say they too did not appreciate having their evening spoiled by cigarettes and that the Company should clearly advertise that there is...

Easy Riding or Easyriding Vietnam

by johnjo123

Hello. Just returned from a 5 day easyride through the Central Highlands of Vietnam. This changed my perception of this amazing country forever. You must get of the beaten track to appreciate this place. If you are considering this, which I suggest you do, then can I recommend a chap called Anh (anh5744@yahoo.com). He also has a website www.vietnameasyriders.netI know this is a blatent plug, but I have no vested interest and have not been asked to write this by Anh. I post this because Anh is damm good at his job and I would love other travellers to enjoy what I have just experienced.Cheers!John

Cao Dai Temple in Tay Ninh town

by petert51

Founded in the 1920’s, Cao Dai, is a fusion of the teachings from Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism, with elements of Christianity and Islam. The Cao Dai Temple is located just outside Tay Ninh, 60 miles northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Services are held four times a day and visitors are welcomed to watch from the balcony above which runs the entire length of the cathedral. Most people visit the Cao Dai Temple together with the Cu Chi Tunnels. The bus ride takes about two hours but if I did it again I would spend more time at the Temple to watch the ceremony and less time at the Tunnels

Dalat.

by cachaseiro

Dalat is the mountain capital of Vietnam. It is not a very old town and was founded by the french who needed a place to retreat to when things got too hot down in Saigon. The town is very popular as a place to visit for vietnamese because it has a cold climate and therefor a different flora and fauna than the rest of the country and the town also has a very arty feel to it.It´s a wealthy town and there is a bit of an upper class feel to Dalat. There are many old french houses from the colonial times and even a small Eiffel tower there.Dalat also has a popular flower park that many visitors goes to and a pretty good range of hotels.

Hanoi.

by cachaseiro

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and place with it´s own charm. It first of all has an old part of town that is still very original and full of life and certainly not some museum town with no people in.It is also the place of many official buildings as the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum for instance. It´s a city that you really should visit when you go to Vietnam even if the weather up north can be quite miserable at time.

Relax and see the nature

by Azone2008

There are plenty of activities and things to see of course. But don't forget to realx and just stroll around in the cities. The street life is fascinating and some times even beautiful to watch. Don't forget your camera because there are zillions of things you want to capture from the daily life in Hanoi or Saigon.

Halong Bay, A Necessary Day Trip

by ESQinDC

Located about a three hour drive from Hanoi lies Vietnam's natural treasure...Halong Bay. Hundreds of limestone mountains rising out of the ocean. There scenery here is spectacular, on par with Yosimite or the Grand Canyon. Book a tour with your hotel or at many of the numerous shops in Old Town Hanoi.Enjoy a boat ride and incredible meal as you float among these stone giants. A day trip you won't regret!

My Son.

by cachaseiro

My Son is an ancient site in Vietnam with several remains from the Champa empire. It´s declared world heritage by UNESCO and many locals call it "little Ankor Wat".Having been to Ankor Wat myself i can surely see the similarity, but i gotta say that it´s by no means the size of Ankor Wat, but it´s still interesting indeed. The ruins were badly damaged by bombings during the Vietnam war, but unexploded items have now been removed from the area and it´s open for visitors.

Tip Photo
Hoi An.

by cachaseiro

Hoi An is probaply my favorite town in Vietnam. It´s a relatively small town with a lot of remains from the colonial times and it has been declared world heritage by UNESCO.It´s a very pretty town sitting by the river, near the sea, with nice old buildings and a very relaxed and bohemian vibe. You might just come here for a day or two, but be ware that you might stay longer, cause it´s so damn nice.

Tip Photo
Hue.

by cachaseiro

Hue was Between 1802 and 1945, it was the imperial capital of the Nguyễn Dynasty and you still have the old imperial city there quite intact and open to the public.Yuo also have the perfume river in Hue where you can take boat trips and there are a few other interesting monuments there too.All in all it´s a good place to stop over for a couple of days, but yuo would probaply not want to be here for more than 3-4 days.
