Halong Bay.

by cachaseiro

Halong Bay is a bay located in the very north of Vietnam and consists of hundreds of limestone formations out in the sea that gives the place a very unique atmosphere. It is one of THE most scenic natural places in the world and people are flocking there and it is getting quite touristy, but it´s still pretty and i certainly think you shouold treat yourself to a visit to Halong Bay if you are in Vietnam. Most tours in Halong Bay are by boat and you have to make up your mind in advance how much you want to pay and what you want from the trip. You have averything from trips lasting a few hours to trips lasting several days. And the standard of the ships doing the tours very a lot, so make sure to check out that you are getting what you expect.

Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City.

by cachaseiro

Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh city as it is called these days is the biggest city in Vietnam and a very busy and vibrant place. You clearly feel that this is the place where things are happening in Vietnam when it comes to doing business, but it´s also a city with quite a few sights, both places from the former french occupation period and from the Vietnam war.

Tip Photo
Nha Trang.

by cachaseiro

Nha Trang is the main beach resort in Vietnam. It´s quite build up and full of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. It´s kind of a big city beach and that is perfect for some and not the place for others.I do quite like the place myself and love to hang out there a few days. It´s also a good place to visit the nearby islands by boat and there is also some resonably good diving and snorkelling there.

The Mekong delta.

by cachaseiro

The mekong delta is very different from the rest of the country, especially because there are very few tourists and therefor the people are more freindly and curious towards westerners.travelling the delta by bicycle is highly recommended, but you also have various tours from Saigon you can join and there are also hotels there. You have lot´s of interesting little river islands in the region with a very unique way of life.

Ho Coc, Binh Chau, Lagi lake

by no_second_chance

if you have lonelyplanet guidebook, flip to the page about "Ho Coc' or Binh Chau, Lagi lake (Lagi gives a hint that it has something to do with the French war. I think a French found it and called it 'lagi'). I was there 10 years ago and impressed with its natural beauty. still it is not a hot spot in tourism industry, so let's hope it still obtains its wildness. They had a mineral hot spring there and what so called mud bath. I remember it took me about 8-10 hours by bus from Ho Chi Minh City. so yes it's sorta in the 'central' (very south, tho).

My DIY plan trip HCMC-Mui Ne

by putri_jogja

I will go to Vietnam too in April. I made my itinerary already. Due to i have limited time, I will only go for HCMC and Mui Ne. I will join 1 day tour to Cu Chi tunnel, but for the rest of the day I don't join it. I read on some forums, it is easy to make the DIY trip there.Day 1. Reach HCMC at night. Day 2. Join tour (from Sinh Tourist) for Cu Chi Tunnel. And then make my own trip for HMCM City, see the walking tour map on Lonely Planet.Night time, enjoy the night market there.Day 3. Morning time, I will take bus (from Sinh Tourist) to Mui Ne. I will take 5-6 hours. Go to red sand dunes and white sand dunes.Enjoy life music in Mui NeDay 4.Lazy time. And get ready to return to HCMC by train. Enjoy night time in HCMC.Day 5.Do some little teraphy a.k.a shopping. Enjoy the day time in HCMC.Get ready for fly back to Indonesia.Happy planning...

Visit Sapa, the Hill Tribe Area North of Hanoi

by tampa_shawn

While your in Vietnam be sure to visit Sapa. The vistas around Sapa are amazing and it has some great trekking, but the number one reason to visit Sapa is to see the various Hilltribe people. Hiking into these villages or going to their local markets is a once in a life time experience. Please see my website for more information on Sapa and to see some amazing pictures.http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/i/40cf5/

Visit the Charming Northern Capital Hanoi

by tampa_shawn

Hanoi is a charming, lake filled city rich in the Cultural Heritage and a must see when you visit VietnamI really did not expect to fall in love with Hanoi, but I did. It is so different that Saigon...slower paced, more elegant and when you wander its streets you get fleeting glimpses of Paris. In fact some call it, the Paris of the Orient. The tree lined avenues and abundance of parks and lakes give Hanoi a real charm. Hanoi is also the perfect jumping off for some of my other favorite locations in Vietnam Sapa and Halong Bay

Pamper Yourself...Massages, Pedicures...

by tampa_shawn

Vietnam is very inexpensive place for a Western to visit. Because of this it offers the unique opportunity to get some extra pampering…. MASSAGES here are about $6 an HOUR and can be found almost anywhere. Since massages are so inexpensive, I made it a practice to get one on the days when I was just too tired to play tourist anymore but didn’t really want to head back to the hotel. I always found that after the massage I was ready to go again. Massages in Vietnam are a bit different then the Western Massages I have had. I normally got my massages at Beauty Parlors that had massage tables in the back (if your real squeamish about hygiene this may not be for you) they seem to specialize in 30 minute massages for about 40,000 dong (a tad less than $3). These massages seem to consist of three things…regular massage type rubbing, fast rubbing to generate heat and then a series of karate type...

Swim in the Living Light in Halong Bay

by tampa_shawn

Here is a little known secret, that will make your trip to Halong Bay. Halong Bay often has Bio luminescence...that's Latin for Living Light! So if you're in Halong Bay when it's active be sure to take a midnight swim. It an awe inspiring experience! Bio-luminescence can only really be seen at night and the darker it is the more magnificent the glow. Since Halong Bay is so desolate and the boats turn off their power and lights after about 11 PM you will have total darkness to take a midnight swim!!!! The only light will be the glow of the moon and the stars from above AND the electric blue light generated in the water when it is disturbed (by ME in this case)!!!If you've ever seen light inside a cresting wave at night...or your steps glowing behind you in the sand...then you've seen this type of Bioluminecence (it's Dinoflagillates...a type of plankton that inhabits the shallow coastal...
