Water Puppet Theatre Hanoi

by ak47uk

The water puppets are amazing. You sit in a theatre looking down at the stage which is in fact a small lake where the scenes take place. The puppeteers stand behind painted bamboo scenery from which they control the puppets. There is a Vietnamese band which supplies the music played on traditional Vietnamese instruments. There are fire breathing Dragons, Buffalos and all sorts of animals and characters to enhance the peformance including fireworks. The show I saw lasted about an hour and cost $3. The theatre opens around 8pm from Tuesday to Sunday.

Chanting Monks

by chefgrad

Try hard to visit a temple earlier in the morning. This is usualy when moks do their chanting. I'm not sure if I'm descrbing it properly, but monks chant together for about half an hour. The feeling is very spiritual and I just couldn't stop myself to chant along, but I did keep my voice down :)

Chug the blood down baby!

by chefgrad

You definatly need to visit Le Mat "the snake village". This village is filled with tons of restaurants serving none other than snake! We made a trip there for only one thing... The snake blood alcohal drink. We each had a shot and ofcourse I was the one who had to eat the beating heart. I swallowed choke and down it went. That night the skies turned red and I felt so relaxed. The mixture of the blood, alcohal and pure adrenaline did it for me.

Hue college of arts

by chefgrad

When passing the Hue college of Arts you realy don't realize what lays inside. At first we thought that we weren't allowed in, but I looked at the gaurd and nodded towards the entrance and he nodded back, so we walked and and saw some "not so special figures", but then, as I ventured deeper inside, all these amazing sculptures started apearing. Truly a sight for sore eyes.

by GenkiMac

When in any country you should always visit the market place. It's the place where you see real people doing their daily routines and apart from the most famous ones (eg. the floating market in Bangkok etc)they are not catered for tourists so you will get a sense of the real life of the people.

Visit the town of Dalat.

by GenkiMac

It has a busy centre with interesting market but its also a small town with a lovely atmosphere. It may be a relief to get away from Merchants (rife in many other places in Vietnam) and to be able to walk and see so much without worrying about transport. The houses are interesting and its scenic with a lake at it's centre and the surrounding rice fields.

The Water Puppets in Hanoi

by MSelva

The Water Puppets in Hanoi are indiguous to Viet Nam. It is a way of folklore. Puppeteers stand in the water behind a curtain and manipulate puppets in the water by a bamboo rod. The puppets create folktales. The water puppets originated in the villages where each village had a 'cultural house' and infront of the cultural house was always a pond. As a form of community activities - the water puppets were founded

Halong Bay. Relax on a boat. We stayed for 24 hours on the boat. You can take a swim. I was afraid of too may tourists. But it wasn't that way. Sometimes I had that feeling we were alone. Sit and watch and ... dream. The best way to end a trip to Vietnam.
