 | Hanoi Things To Do | Tips 791 - 800 of 823 | | Water puppet shows are a traditional Vietnamese attraction. Even though I'd probably never attend a puppet show at home I enjoyed watching the water puppets. The show is actually entertaining and a unique Vietnamese experience. You can buy water puppets in any souvenir shop or the airport. Leave a Comment

We didn't really know what to expect from the Water Puppet Show! Basically it's like a standard puppet show but the puppets hover over a big tank/trough of water, and the puppeteers get wet feet! It was entertaining, the dragons breathe fire and rice sprouts from the water! However, it became a bit monotenous after a while. Far too many tourists as well. Shows at 8pm. Book early! We organised this through a local travel agent. Basically, we hopped on a 16 seater bus bound for Halong Bay. We stopped off briefly at a local craft shop which helps victims of Agent Orange and then onto the boat. Once on the boat we then headed to the ...caves. We then had lunch on the boat and cruised up to ..where we had a swim and/or a kayak. The boat stayed here for about an hour and a half. From here we then cruised some more had dinner and then anchored at... The weather for us was absolutely beautiful-we were extremely lucky as it was just before a typhoon came in so the sunset was gorgeous.

We saw a lot of different kinds of pagodas all trough Vietnam and this one was by far one of the most beautyful and interesting ones! If you only have time for one or do not want to see more this one should be your choise! Leave a Comment Address: Quan Su 73Directions: Between Ly Thuong Kiet and Tran Hung Dao

We took a private half day cruise through beautiful Ha Long Bay with Baitho Junks, organised by our tour company. We sailed for many hours through the bay where giant limestone rocks rise out of the water, before stopping at a houseboat where a family sold it's catch and later at some caves where we got off to explore. A great seafood lunch was served onboard the boat and later we all sat on the upstairs deck in the sun while we sailed back to shore. The cost of the cruise was included in our tour price, so check the website for costs as you can do day cruises and overnight ones too.

We walked to this place from the train station after we returned from Sapa. Just turn left and left, then continue walking straight until you see a walled compound that looks like it contains temples. About 15 mins from the station. We were too early and instead played a game of badminton and exercised with the locals in the park (beside this place). The place is well maintained and beautiful. When I was there, groups of children came in for some educational activities. So it isn't just a museum piece but alive with use! There are two souvenir shops. Buy your postcards, stamps (they can tell you the cost of postage) and hand them over to the people there who will post them for you. So convenient! It also has very clean toilets and you only need to pay 500 Dongs to use, the cheapest in Vietnam! Leave a Comment

We went to the temple of literature. To be the first university in Vietnam I found it a bit smaller than it should be. HOwever because of it size, you do not need too much time walking around. A nice walk would be to go to the mausoleum from there. Traffic is light due to the area been full of embassadors residences and officials residences, therefore you can walk without been bothered by people selling fruit, motorbike drivers offering a ride..... Well preserved old shop house with courtyard gardens, built in the late 1800s to house a single family. Open to the public so you can look around and see inside a traditional house. When the population of Hanoi increased in the 20th century the house was occupied by five families! Leave a Comment Address: 87 Ma May StreetDirections: Central Hanoi

Well this museum wasnt fantastic but for the sake of getting out the hot sun for an hour i took a wander around the exhibits. Its built over a number of floors, each floor dipicting how the women of vietnam have helped the country develop, from the guerella fighters to how important they are to society. The top floor has exhibits about the fashion of the vietnamese women in the different parts of vietnam, from the hill tribes of the north to the traditional dress of the modern woman.
