The Beach Crowds Come Out at Dusk
The beach at Quy Nhon is empty. I thought I had the whole resrt town to myself when I arrived at midday. Wow! All this sand to myself! But when I returned to the beach area at dusk things were different. The beach was packed and getting more crwoded. Throngs of people -- mostly in shorts and T-shirts -- crowded the sands to play scoccer, watch the sunset, and maybe swim. I was stunned at how quickly and thoroughly the beach became full with people. And I was equally surprised at the gender imbalance -- over 90% male and none of the very few women there were wearing bathing suits at all! The population was almost entirely Vietnamese, as I was the only westerner I saw. This is definitely a different beach culture than in Hawaii!
