Phan Thiet Local Customs

While browsing in one of the local shops one evening I came upon a whole section of Snake Wine.The larger the bottle the bigger the snake. Snake wine consists of rice wine mixed with ,what at least looked like a Cobra. The snake is coiled up inside . Reportedly, the more venomous the snake, the better the wine.There were also bottles with scorpians in them .

We had good memories of these massages from Thailand a few years ago ,so we looked forward to trying it here.

There are fewer massage parlours available here as the gov't limits their numbers in an effort to control the potential for "extra" services..There were a choice of several along the main street and our service was excellent . It was $7.00 for 45 minutes.

I was happy to find out (before I even travel) that in Vietnam beer is common and popular. Also I found out that they import Czech technology back in the 70's so that is also promising :)
So while on the roads, restaurants and hotels you could always have some nice cold beer. But when I was here in Phan Thiet, I got beyond all my expectations, we found out that less then a km from our hotel there is this brewery that are making one of the best beers in the world. That is Hoa Vien Beer. So what can be better then just strolling down the beach barefoot and get into this brewery and enjoying cold excellent beer :)

I do not know the name of these boats, but they are the standard for the local fishermen.

Sometimes they are manned by one person, sometimes two. They fishermen stand in these large, round 'boats', paddle themselves into position by using one paddle, and proceed to drop their fishing net lines.

After a short time, they will go back out and recover their nets and catch.

The boats are woven from dried palm leaves and then coated by some sort of pitch or tar to make them water tight. Newer ones are made from fiberglass.

Las carreteras y en general el tráfico es caótico en Vietnam , especialmente para nosotros que estamos acostumbrados a otro tipo de tráfico.
El tráfico es lento , no llegan a los 50 Kms. por hora y tiene que ir sorteando a la gente que llena las careteras andando, las bicis y las motos principalmente, eso si tocando la bocina continuamente

The roads and generally the traffic is Chaotic, spetially for us that we are used to another type of driving
The traffic is slow , they don´t reach the 50Kms/hr and they must avoid the walking people that fills the roads , the bikes, and the motos spetially , but always ringing the horn

Fishing is one of the major income in this region of Vietnam. Phan Thiết and the region is known for its fishing industry, sea food and fish sauce of course.
