I will be the first to admit that when I saw the itinerary of our Mekong Delta tour, I was not all that enthused about the places they had us visiting. I figured that the stops were basically set up to get kickbacks for the tour operators. It was a fair assumption after three weeks in Vietnam where that had happened to us on a daily basis. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only were they not pushy in getting you to buy their wares, it was genuinely interesting to see how they made their products. The candy factory was particularly fun and their stuff was so good and cheap, we couldn’t resist buying some. In fact, we were sorry we didn’t buy more of the coconut caramels that D still dreams about till this day.

Another fun stop was a rice paper factory. These transparent rice papers were formed by pouring a thin batter into a small wok-like pan and cooking it for a matter of seconds. These were then allowed to dry and stacked for selling. The precision in this small factory was incredible. In the front of the factory, they sold these delicious spring rolls, made with their finest rice paper. They were probably the tastiest we had on our trip and certainly the freshest.

Not all the factories were fun but even this rice popping facility was interesting. It was surely a hot place to work but it was well ventilated. Rice was poured into huge woks and cooked quickly to cause it to pop into something resembling popcorn. This was used in a variety of ways, but the best were sweet treats, much like the ones made with Rice Crispies back home. Ok, they were actually much better than that so we bought some of those too.

Big Eyes painted on the front of the boat means Man's Eyes. Usualy owners paint Man's Eyes on their first or major boat and smaller Woman's Eyes on the second one

Los barcos del río tienen en su proa dos ojos muy llamativos que se suponen son para ahuyentar a los malos espíritus que pueblan el río Mekong

The boats on the river have two very stiking big eyes in the bow , that is supposed that are to frighten the bad spirits that inhabit the Mekong river

El incienso que luego quemarán en los templos se hace en pequeños talleres y luego lo ponen a secar al sol en las carreteras.
El transporte se hace hasta en bicicleta

The incense that will be burnt in the temples is made in small shops and latter on they put it to dry to the sun in the roads
The transport is made even by bycicle

Debido a la gran cantidad de estudiantes, los colegios tienen dos turnos en Vietnam , por la ma?ana y por la tarde.
Al terminar y empezar las clases las calles y carreteras se llenan de ni?os que con su uniforme van y bienen a los colegios llen?ndolo todo de bullicio y alegr?a

Due to the big number of students, the schools have two shifts in Vietnam, in the morning and in the afternoon.
At the end nad at the begining of the classes the streets and roads become fullof children that with their uniforms go and return to the schools filling every place with noise and happiness
