Its Hot!!

It can be quite hot in the morning in the open “river”. Of course the boat has got roof to protect you, but you’ll definitely got out of those covering once you guys arrive at the floating market. In fact standing at the roof is the best place to take great photos, enjoying freshly cut pineapple, sun bathing and all that.

Top End Hotel Resort

Sorry if I describe this page and sounded too “of the beaten path” or “low budget” travel. Can Tho has several middle and top end hotel resorts and dine on luxury cruise ship or luxury junk with teak fixtures are attainable.

Since I’m not taking up the luxury package, I cannot provide anything more than this picture frame can describe. Do check with your tour agency for such package.

Boat Service for Hired

Boat Service

The crossing of rivers using row boat is very common and almost the most efficient mode of transport for local that work opposite of the canal. A small fee will be charged for the service and passenger can have to option to help boat lady to row since they have long established their client server relationship.

I mostly see women providing such boat service. Could it be the war had killed too many of those macho man?

Fishermen

Although majority of the Mekong dwellers engaging in farming, a small of portion of them are fishermen since the delta is made up of waters and lands.

You don’t see big tugboat operating here due to the depth of the river bed and also the quantity of the fishes. Only small fishing boat fix to make a living here.

Blue.....

When the rain clouds are forming, most of the boatman will quickly cover they goods with water resistant blue canvas.

It’s kind of funny seeing blue canvas sheets floating on top of the canal. Boatmen are the exception & they almost look blue because of the rain.

Hammock time!!

Part of the package deal after lunch is to hang in the hammock for about an hour. Just kick back and relax.

It will be great if you have a dark sun glasses to shield excessive light to enable you to fall asleep easily, also protect your eyes from direct sun light (those that sneak through leaves and branches).

Attap

Attap are some of the best roof material that provide shelter and keep the house cool without any usage of modern air conditioning.

The attap sheets are normally made of palm leave or straw related materials and it gives small huts more authentic looks. Just be extra careful not to play fire or fireworks too close to houses with attap roofs.

Soil transport vessel

Soil transport vessel

Soil transport vessel

Majority of the bigger vessels that found in the Mekong Delta region are transporting soils dug up from the canal. The soils are most likely to be use for land fill or agricultural purposes, also one way to secure soils “stolen” from Russia and China.

Mekong River source from Russia passes through China in land, to Laos and Cambodia bringing million tones of soils washing from those lands overtime.

That makes me think that US motive for Vietnam War is probably due to the forecast where Russia & China will be getting hollow, but Vietnam will getting larger. Hope the censorship will not destroy this tip for spreading the Mekong Theory.

Gas Station

Most of the diesel or petroleum products were used by boat or generators. Only bigger town with 4-wheelers or motorcycles will have land drive through station, else will be mostly water facing gas stations.

First Destination, Written Last!?

Church!

This is my first destination in Vietnam, but I written it last. It does kind of contradict huh!?

Well, in life we often do the opposite. If you follow my Vietnam trip, you’ll notice I pay more attention to Cathedrals than old tombs or temples. And it’s quite obvious that I’m not quit well in interpreting faiths other than Christianity and Catholic.

>> So funny, going to Vietnam checking out cathedrals.
