I did mention that Vietnamese consume rice in all imaginable ways. Same concept as pop corns, but pop rice in Vietnam is stirred fried in hot sands.

In Ho Chi Minh City we booked a two day trip (no use to name the price, it's too long ago)
which would get us to some interesting markets and to Can Tho. We would also have a jungle hike and a visit to the Vietnamese Killing Fields
After a long ride (3 hrs) in the mini bus, we went off for an hour long boat trip
It was lovely and quiet on the river and you get to see lots of friendly children yeling "hello"

This bridge is called Friendship Bridge that connect mainland to one of the bigger island at the Mekong Delta.
Build by Australian & 2/3 of the cost were absorbed by Australia. The arrangement is to help Vietnam in its development, also to foster the relationship between Australia & Vietnam.

The jungle trip was one of the most scary jungle trips I ever made.
You are aware of the history and think you are an invader. Walking with that vision, you hear everything. You almost can feel the enemy around the corner, behind every tree...
they can come out of their tunnels.
It's scary
Moreover, we walked over artificially made paths which were flooded so we didn't know where the swamp began and ended...

Candie smade from coconut juice, cooked with some green leaf to give them their greenish color. Arter cooling down the mass is shaped, cut and wrapped in rice paper first, to avoid sticking to the outer paer wrap. At the end they are look like green toffees. The delta of the Mekong is where one can find the best rice paper and rice cakes.RICE PAPER- is made from a batter of rice flour, water and salt. The paper is steamed, then dried on bamboo racks. Used as wrapper for a variety of spring rolls.

A very popular candyin the south is the Rice Bar. It's made of poped rice mixed with shugar and vanila syrop, pressed into a block and cut into bar size. The way the rice is poped is very interesting: In a huge wok the mix the dry rice with hot sand above an open fire. The hot sand cover each and every grain of rice, and it pops like pop-corn. The rice-sand mixture is then put in a basket which filteres the sand back into the wok. The sand is black and the rice is white. a nice picture

Can you imagine asynchronized swim of hundreds of boats creating a huge traffic jam? That's how the big floating markets look like. Big wholesalers boats, whose signboard is the sold product attached to the top of a perch. The smaller businesses and the customers manuvering between them gracefully.

Sam Mountain which lies west of Chau Doc, at approximately 2 km from the frontier between Vietnam and Cambodia.
The 230-m-high mountain does not only offer beautiful landscapes, but it is also where many historic remains deeply loved by the inhabitants of Nam Bo plain are located. Ba Chua Xu Temple, Tay An Pagoda, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, Tao Ngo Garden, and Bach Van Hill are among the famous sites to visit near Sam Mountain.

Another unique industry in this region is the snake farm in the area of My Tho township. In 1977, Lt. Colonel Tran Van Duoc (Tu Duoc), a reptile enthusiast, created Dong Nam Snake Farm. Initially created strictly as a research site for medicinal uses of reptile venom, Dong Nam Snake Farm today is the largest of its kind in Vietnam. The farm boasts 20 different varieties of venomous snakes and is home to other species such as boas, turtles. Cobras are often soaked along with herbs in large flasks of whisky which can be bought in the snake market in Phung Hiep. This potent drink reportedly will increase your libido as well as cure all sorts of illnesses. Live snakes are also for sale in the market and are exported to other Asian countries to be used as food and medicine. In a typical snake full-course meal, the gallbladder is extracted from the freshly-killed snake and together with some blood and whisky a drink is made. The snake is then chopped off and cooked in various ways. Most tourists opt for a curry stir-fried snake dish just for the thrill of it.
