Hai Van Pass

The Hai Van Pass is located on Highway 1 on the border between Thua Thien - Hue and Danang Province. It used to be a stop when taking a bus from Hue to Danang but is now bypassed via a tunnel under the mountain.

The pass has some of the best views in Vietnam on a clear day. On the south side you can see the road winding all the way to Danang. To the north you can see Lang Co beach. At the summit is an old French fort that was later used as a bunker by the South Vietnamese and Americans.

This photo is of a little water fall about 1hr out of Da Nang. The guy reading the paper is " Mr T " He runs motorbike tours out of Da Nang and Ho Ann for only a few dollars he will take you to the places of the beaten path. We went into the mountains and saw old B52's and bunkers from the war. Visited the leper colony and went swimming at china beach. We ate at his friends houses fresh chicken which we had to catch and fish straight out of the ocean it was a chance to get right into the local culture, if anyone has a chance it is well worth doing.
