    Huong Son Province:Observing Local Faces

by bpacker Updated Jan 11, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you have the chance, try to take a day trip out of Hanoi and observe the local faces. Each face tells a story.

Local Markets are the best places to observe local faces. Here's a group of local women haggling over a jacket. Note how their headscarfs are tied.

Photo Note: Taken enroute to Perfume Pagoda, in Huong Son province. Ordinarily, the bus does not make stops midway during the journey. I was just lucky that a buffalo created a massive traffic jam here, allowing me to take pictures.

    Huong Son Province:Local Faces

The older the face, the longer a story it tells.

These are the faces who have seen the American War. Wizened and a little weary, they are the ones who built modern day Vietnam. I call them the real survivors of reality, minus the TV

Photo Note: Taken enroute to Perfume Pagoda, in Huong Son province. All pictures were taken without flash and with lots of discretion with a stealthy digi cam.

    Huong Son Province:Local Street Vendors

Just before we arrived at the Yen River that would take us to Perfume Pagoda, we saw an open market and lots of street vendors.

A local lady sells her wares on the streets of Huong Son. She squats and waits patiently for her customers, completely unfazed by the noise of buying and selling around her.

Photo Note: Taken enroute to Perfume Pagoda, in Huong Son province. Note that the bus only made a stop because of a massive traffic jam.

How often do you get to see a rural market in Vietnam? Look out for one in your day trips

Cries of buying and selling permeate the village air. Farmers bring their best produce to the market to earn a little cash to send their kids to school.

Ever notice how the kids are often dolled and pampered in Vietnam? The rural kids are no exception.

Cute Vietnamese children dolled up and bundled in colourful clothing against the cold.
