Have you thought of using a Motorbike Taxi? .........
It may look to be a bit daunting when you see all of them in the towns over Vietnam, but have a go, its a good, 'CHEAP' way to get around.

Not only do they take you to the sights, they will also take you to the Airport.
Size of Baggage does not seem to matter, THEY WILL MAKE IT FIT!

After walking our feet off all day, we could not face the walk back to our hotel from the big white buddha at Long Son Pagoda. The driver let us both squeeze into his cyclo. The slow pace means that you can take in so much more of the sights than in a taxi. He only wanted US$1 to take us about 2klm, we gave him US$2.

  • The bus trip from Dalat to Nha Trang was very scenic. Glad we did it during the daytime. Fantastic journey down a mountain pass and into a lush valley full of market gardens. Onions, tomatos, tobacco, rice paddies. Very neat & orderly. This was not the open-tour bus, but had rather an interesting mix of tourists and locals alike. Can't recall the name of the bus company but all of their buses were "green". Cost Dalat to Nha Trang was 60,000 dong. The trip took around 5 hours.

  • Thanks to your replies,
TNK Travel were willing to book for me but....arrival time in Nha trang) OUCH !!4:50 not at all I happy with that.I have now successfully made a online booking with Jetstar. "Check their prices".A return flight was so much cheaper than a (sleeper) fare on the Golden train.I can see more people opting to fly rather than taking the Golden train if they dont adjust prices & their timetable.

  • The airporter bus is only 40,000 dong compared to the taxi 220,000dong. It takes you to your hotel. We had to get off one bus then into a taxi for our final destination, it was worth it for the money saved.

    Open Bus tickets at agencies

  • We wanted to go from Nha Trang to Mui Ne then Mui Ne to Ho Chi Minh. All the agencies told us that it is cheaper to buy the two tickets together, rather than just buying the Nha Trang to Mui Ne ticket then buying the ticket to Ho Chi Minh in Mui Ne. Just from our travel experience we didn't trust this to be true so we only bought just the one ticket to Mui Ne ($5 US). I wasn't surprised when we got to Mui Ne that the ticket to Ho Chi Minh was cheaper! Only 60,000 dong to Ho Chi Minh instead of the 96,000 dong ticket they tried to sell us in Nha Trang. Don't believe their lies that buying two tickets together will be cheaper. They'll say anything to make a sale.

Flying between places makes sense in Vietnam, for several reasons... and not only because you are short of time. The distances are quite important between most places of interest, with a significant exception in central Vietnam (Hoi An - Danang - Hue) - roads are in good conditions but no one follows road rules.. or maybe there simply aren't... an accident is always around the corner.

For longer distances we chose to fly, so we got to Nha Trang by plane from Danang... a dodgy-looking ATR72 which had seen better days, but I slept all the way through... a very smooth 1 hour and 20 minutes flight. The cost? Less than 50 dollars by Vietnam airlines, which except for this flight had large and very modern planes. Recommended.

  • If you can find the a good moto driver. Half an hours ride around the city should cost you 20,000 donmg. Unlike in Hoi An.

    overnight train to Danang

  • We took the overnight train from Nha Trang to Danang just for the experience. Now that we've done it once we won't need to do it again........... Filthy dirty on board facilities, I itched all night[ not sure if that was just in my mind] but by far the worst thing was the sleeping arrangements. It was a four bedded cabin with just my husband and I to start with. When we pulled out of the station the procession started. Every 3 to 4 hours a train worker would come bumbling into the cabin, throw himself up on the top spare bunk, turn lights on or off, turn the fan on or off, snort, spit and cough, then his alarm on his watch would go off, up he'd get, leave the cabin only to be replaced by another worker. This went on the whole trip.So much for a sleeper cabin. We didn't sleep all night. Thank goodness for the cans of coke we bought with us from the station. Oh did I mention the RUM that went with the coke helped too!!!!!
