Cham cultural performances in Po Nagar Temple
Make sure you go to the Po Nagar Temple in the north of the city and spend enough time there to see the dance performances. There is no regular schedule - the girls usually dance when there are many visitors. They rest from around 1100 to 1300 and for a few days at the beginning of each month and for a whole month or more around the Kate Festival (usually around October).Around half of their income comes from tips, so please leave a few notes if you liked the performances (I'm sure you will!). Most of the people working in the temple (dancers, musicians, salesgirls, photographers) are ethnic Cham from a place near Phan Rang in Ninh Thuan Province. Most of them do not speak any English, with the exception of Lak, who works in the handicraft shop and may be able to have a simple conversation with you. You can also buy CDs from her if you like the music played during dance performances.
