This was to become our favorite place to eat…and we made the trek down the beach, eventually cutting through one of the hotels again and connecting with the main street that runs North into Duong Dong where the May Restaurant is found.
It’s a more enjoyable walk down the beach than walking along the side of the street.
We received great personalized service from the owner, Hai , pronounced just like “Hi” and the main server here, Mi…pronounced like “ Me”. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated and the food was GREAT and not expensive at all.
We enjoyed eating here so much that we took business cards and left them around the hotel that we were staying at hoping that it would bring Hai some extra business.
I think we likely had at least four meals here in five days…a lunch the first day that we discovered it, and then dinners.
A combination of reasons made it appealing…the service was terrific, we had loads of laughs with the staff, and the food was really quite good and inexpensive.
If you’re looking for a reliable and good restaurant to eat in while you’re staying near or in Duong Dong then you need to visit Hai and Mi…and say hello to them both for me when you’re there.
Favorite Dish: We eat Spring Rolls, soups, chicken and beef prepared different ways. The menu has photos that show what the presentation is actually like.
Everything that we eat here was quite tasty...served hot and seasoned just right weather you enjoy it SPICEY with lots of peppers or not...:o[
This has to be one of the best restaurants we ate at on the island. Set in a lovely garden type setting underneath a giant thatched roof. Softly lit and an excellent menu. Staff were efficient and attentive. Food is absolutley to die for.
Favorite Dish: You must try the tamarind prawns - out of this world!! Also, you must try the BBQ Squid and Fried Crab Claws!!
If you are staying at the Thousand Stars end of long beach, pay a visit to the beach Club right at the end. very quiet surroundings, friendly staff, some comfy looking hammocks and they do a great fish and chips. The music is good which is unusual on the island and they also have some nice looking bungalows.
If you happen too see this place - run as fast and far away as you can! The food was absolutely worst I have ever eat in my life!
We orded chicken(mistake). After that, crowing stops...hm...at least food was fresh;(
After 10 minutes, we got raw chicken pieces and some kind of home made grill.
There was completely nothing to eat in that little bird, than skin and bones.
Aften next 10 minutes, we got "salad" made from... something... with some kind of decoration.
Waiter, for whom I can complain - in our salads is chicken legs.
Good bye, appetite!
It's very unlikely, that you get lost in there... but everything is possible.
Favorite Dish: Maybe something else is even eatable... but if I sometimes get lost in there again, I rather eat worms than chicken!
And what worst, the food was't even cheap.
Tropicana Resort is right on Long Beach, on the western side of Phu Quoc. I walked down the beach to try their restaurant from the hotel I was staying at. You can get a motorbike to drive you there.
The restaurant has a great terrace which looks over the beach and out to sea. Sit and watch the fishing boats heading out and the sun setting. The menu features a range of Vietnamese food and the usual line up of western dishes.
My meal was delicious, the service friendly and interested, and the view fantastic.
Favorite Dish: I had Lemongrass Fish. Yum!
Apart from a seafood barbecue buffet one evening at the resort (whole fish, crabs, lobster, shellfish, squid, and scallops just thrown on the barbecue with scales, guts, and all – tasted great) we ate at local cafes where the food was fresh (cooked at your table from live in one case), cheap, and delicious.
This IS the BEST place you will find in Phu Quoc to just HANG OUT ......it was reccomended by another traveler met whilst in Saigon.
You can find Free Internet, New Zealand Ice Cream, great snacks and the Shakes are the BEST found in Vietnam !!!!
Owned by an Aussie guy Rohan and his Vietnamese wife Duong, clean, very friendly and reasonably priced.
They also offer valuable Tourist information about ANYTHING to do on the Island from their many years experience in this paradise, you even get a FREE Map!
Highly reccomended and not to be missed when visiting Phu Quoc....enjoy! :-)
Favorite Dish: Banana Splits and Milk Shakes are awesome!
Its a very clean and modern shop right in the centre of Duong Dong town, the Ice Cream & Shakes are the BEST I found in Vietnam and I have been travelling here for 2 months, they also have 2 PCs with free ADSL for cutomers! Staff very friendly...
Favorite Dish: The Banana Splits and Strawberry milkshakes are just devine!
Just wander down the beach away from Duong Dong town and you will come to the Tropicana Resort. Here there is a lovely outdoor area where they serve great food. The place was packed the night we ate there. Had the most delicious Crab Fried Rice.
Favorite Dish: Try the Fried Rice with Crab meat - delicious!!
There's a lot of different restaurants and resorts serving food along the mile stretch of Long Beach. We didn't have a bad meal in any of them so it's hard to be too specific. Dont' stick to always eating in the place where you are staying, take your torch and explore the options.
Nice place for a change from sea-food and all vietnamese food.
Altough situated on the road behind the resorts the setting is nice on a large terrasse.
The menu is quite large and we got real "galette" bretonne, for a price quite modest.
Good selection of coktails as well.
Favorite Dish: Crepes aux pommes brulees avec du chocolat fondu
Caramelized apple crepe with chocolate
What makes it so special/not so special?
Hmm..I think the pizzas are very special. I would however not call them pizzas, yes they are thin ( as others have written ) and round, but that's were the simularitites stop.
I've had a lot of pizzas in many countries in europe & asia, some good some bad, but these taste absolutely nothing!
There's no seasoning/herbs/salt or anything that gives the "pizza" any taste, except for the burned flavour that comes from bottom which is more black than brown or whatever the normal pizzabottom color is :).
It also took more than 30 minutes to get one of the 2 pizzas we ordered, the other one arrived 15 minutes later. Which is strange, if you order two pizzas and you have a big oven with room for more than two pizzas, why don't you put them in at the same time so they are ready at the same time and the people waiting for them can get them AT THE SAME TIME!
And they were the size of pancakes.....
Can't believe the people saying the pizzas "are great" and "the best they've have had", you must have been either drunk or more likely confused Carole with another place (or both).
I´m 99% sure you will like the pizzas better on any of the other restaurants on phu quoc!
Favorite Dish: The Coke light was nice and cool.
Bland food and poor service. Waited over an hour for our meal and then the main meal was bought in before the starter! Also surrounded by two or three dogs who seemed to be resident here. Watched as a few guests got up and left because they were tired of waiting. Maybe it was a bad night, but I would not go there to eat again.
There is a new restaurant on Phu Quoc which was really nice called Itaca. It is clearly much more expensive than most other restaurants around since it is so cheap in Vietnam. The bill for 4 people was about 2 million dong which is about 100 USD. We had 4 starters, 4 main courses, 4 drinks, a fruit juice and about 3-6 beers. The size of the dishes were actually pretty large. I was stuffed after having eaten my starter (fried squid). Maybe consider sharing a starter.
We sat in the garden, it was a lovely, calm looking and trendy environment for a relaxed meal. I thought the deco was pretty awesome and the food was really nice.
A family restaurant, the 12 year old girl daughter of the owner is the one serving and make the order
Favorite Dish: The grilled squid is so good
