Untouched oasis of Vietnamese culture and GREAT beaches!
Stinging creatures in the sea, maybe too quiet at times?!
A pleasure to find somewhere that still has some authenticity.
I am going to go Phu Quoc at December. I booked ticket Jetstar Airline. But i dont know about hotel, restaurant and minitour...in here. Can you present me about something in Phu Quoc. Example: Price of hotel/resort, foods, restaurant, beach and minitour ... Thankmore

Things must do in Phu Quoc:1. "Bai Sao beach": beach with white sand, green water, romantic coffee shops and restaurants2. "Boat trip" : a must to explore coral reef and fishing with SUNNY BOAT trip for 15 dollars per person but we bargained and got $14 dollars per person. excellent food, friendly tour guide "although their english is not too...more
Experience the fishing in the Island and afterwards go on snorkeling and swimming...after a round trip around Vietnam, sometimes needed to relax ....specially at the last days in the country before heading back home....Phu Quoc is a small Island with less population and far away from big cities, no engines no other noise except the only sounds you...more
If you enjoy a bit of snorkeling with less crowds, Rainbow Divers is a nice choice. They acatully organise scuba diving trips, but were happy to take snorkelers along. I must say that after we also went on a snorkeling only tour, this one was much better, considering that we couldn't see very much on a all snorkeling tour in the South.Snorkeling...more
There is a new restaurant on Phu Quoc which was really nice called Itaca. It is clearly much more expensive than most other restaurants around since it is so cheap in Vietnam. The bill for 4 people was about 2 million dong which is about 100 USD. We had 4 starters, 4 main courses, 4 drinks, a fruit juice and about 3-6 beers. The size of the dishes...more
Nice place for a change from sea-food and all vietnamese food.Altough situated on the road behind the resorts the setting is nice on a large terrasse. The menu is quite large and we got real "galette" bretonne, for a price quite modest.Good selection of coktails as well.Friendly owners. If you are staying at the Thousand Stars end of long beach, pay a visit to the beach Club right at the end. very quiet surroundings, friendly staff, some comfy looking hammocks and they do a great fish and chips. The music is good which is unusual on the island and they also have some nice looking bungalows.more
What makes it so special/not so special?Hmm..I think the pizzas are very special. I would however not call them pizzas, yes they are thin ( as others have written ) and round, but that's were the simularitites stop.I've had a lot of pizzas in many countries in europe & asia, some good some bad, but these taste absolutely nothing! There's no...more
This was to become our favorite place to eat…and we made the trek down the beach, eventually cutting through one of the hotels again and connecting with the main street that runs North into Duong Dong where the May Restaurant is found. It’s a more enjoyable walk down the beach than walking along the side of the street. We received great personalized...more
There isn't much nightlife on Phu Quoc. That's great really. Start your evening by watching the sun melt into the Pacific Ocean and then find a beachside spot for dinner. Rest your dinner down on the beach gazing up at the sea of stars, or across the sea at the galaxy of squid boat lights!more

We rented motorbikes at a small shop located at 100 Trang Hung Dao ...the main road that goes South to An Thoi...and used them to tour the Island...I only rented for one day...while Kevin rented a few days and did some different areas of Phu Quoc..Motorbike is the common way around the island....the roads are a little bit rough in some places...and...more
To maximize our time we used Vietnam Airlines to get to and from Phu Quoc...we flew in and out of HCMC.As Ive mentioned already in my Hoi An pages I wouldn't hesitate to use Vietnam Airlines again at all...the service received from this airline was excellent...on time flights, reasonable cost, and professional service. The flight from HCMC to Ohu Quoc...more
From bracelet to necklace everything you can imagine..you can watch & wait while they are preparing your jewelry directly from the oysters farm to the consumer
What to pay: I bought my pair of earing for 500,000 dong about 20 $
This is not really a major problem - may be more of a heads up kind of thing. When swimming in the ocean - sometimes you get the strange feeling of being stung. There was some kind of small stinger - but this never caused a problem at all and left no welts. It did not always happen - maybe it depended on the tides.more
Be aware of the Ha Tien to Phnom Penh scam! In Phu Quoc, agencies advertise a tourist bus service that takes you from Ha Tien to Phonm Penh for US18 (in fact, U$19, give their exchange rate). I was promised no walking, no waiting, and a big bus. As it happens they left us waiting a long time in the border and then put us all in a public van that...more
We found this out the hard way....we were using travelers checques....we had ATM cards so it wouldn't have been the end of the World had we needed to use them however there is only ONE BANK in Duong Dong that is OPEN on Saturdays..and there are plenty of ATMS around. We had planned to get cash together on Friday to clear up our hotel bill on check...more
There's not a lot to buy on Phu Quoc and the shops in Duong Dong town seemed more expensive than elsewhere in vietnam. Do all your clothes and souvenir shopping elsewhere and don't rely on Phu Quoc for shopping if it's your last stop before going home.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Take enough sun lotion with you for your whole trip. It was the one thing that we didn't take with us, assuming it would be on sale everywhere - how wrong we were! A few places sell miniture bottles of factor 30 Nivea suncream, otherwise you will be left to burn. Also take aftersun lotion or moisturiser if yoou are trying to get a tan - all the moisturiser we saw on sale was skin whitening - not so helpful for us!
Also take some strong deet with you as we didn't see much available.
Hiring a 100cc motorbike on the disputed island of Phu Quoc, the red dust roads provide a challenge to the most experienced of motorcylists! Riding pillion, I decided to let my husband go first and experience the thrill (and intrepidation) of this road to the north of the island.more
This place might not be so 'off the beaten trail' anymore, but it definitely has that feeling. It's a small fishing town on a beautiful sandy bayon the east coast. The jetty is really long. My driver took me right out to the end on the motorbike for a view back to the shore. This is reputedly a good place to have a fish dish for lunch!more
After we got the island, I get sick. Just really high fever, but still... Normally I got only few decimals little fever, but now I got few degrees. Our hotels doctor was somewhere (surprise) so we have to go to hospital. Phu Quoc was the final stop on my North to South jaunt through Vietnam and the point at which I realized the futility of my attempts to pick up bits of the language. I decided to pass along my bootlegged Lonely Planet phrasebook, purchased for $2 in Sa Pa, to Anh and Fong, my Phu Quoc masseuses. Able to speak only the little bit of English they'd...more
Bai Sao is a stunning beach on the eastern side of Phu Quoc. There are a few very low key beach 'cottage' places there. My Lan is one. You can see it's very simple. I forgot to ask how much it was! Doh. I only visited Bai Sao for a day. There is a restaurant here. It looks like a great place to park up on a beautiful beach with a good book and...more
