In Làng Gà, the village occupied by the K'hor tribe, everyone has a job to do, including the children. Whether picking or transporting vegetables, carrying a baby or comforting a younger sibling, the K'hor children learn at a tender age that life is comprised of hard work and idle time is a luxury allowed only to the youngest of them all. However, the presence of tourists has also brought a negative change in the attitude of the children. Once shy and industrious, now the little ones are creeping toward visitors with their palms up. The principle of self-pride, which is the essence of tribal self-sufficiency, is lost with the younger generation. Unless the trend is reversed, this behaviour may be the first step toward identity lost. Leave a Comment

This story goes back to the time before Đà Lạt was born. It was not a resort back then, but a wild open area where many tribes lived. When Lang and Bian planned to live together as husband and wife (see "Eternal Love" in the "Local Customs" tip), all the animals in the forest came to participate in the ceremony, including the two elephants that lived in La Ngư Thượng. Just before the elephants arrived at Đèo Cà Đắng (Prenn Pass), the news came that Lang and Bian had killed themselves. The sadness took all the strength out of the elephants and they could no longer climb over the pass. Falling down in mourning, with their heads looking toward the K'Bùng mountain range where Lang and Bian took their lives, the elephants' bodies became two mountains that were later called Vơrơm Rowas in the K'hor language and Núi Voi (Elephant Mountains) in Vietnamese. In the past, Núi Voi was one of the most important military strategic points, but it now enjoys the new role as a retreat for tourists as well as local residents of Lâm Đồng province. Leave a Comment

These ladies are working hard harvesting carrots from the farm. Most vegetable in Vietnam are organically grown with limited usage of chemical fertilizers. You will smell some bad odor from organic fertilizer usage in the farm. You will see many women folks working in the farm removing weed and fertilize the carrot plants. Great photographic theme i must say. Leave a Comment
