Cafe de la Poste: Nice ambience
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • A pleasant, french styled, restaurant neat to the Sofitel Dalat Place and Novotel.
The service and food were both excellent. The menu was quite varied with French and vietnamese dishes available and prices were quite good although a little expensive by local standards.
    Pool Table available.

I had the French Country Vegetable soup. An excellent blend of root vegetables in a chicken broth. Just like Grandma used to make.

The Art Cafe was superb white linen, good cutlery & wine glasses it is beautiful. the man that owns the restaurant is an artist who's works decorate the walls. The service is terrific nothing is to much trouble.
The gentleman and he was who runs the cafe took the time to show us how he did his art and how he "layered" the cocktails. Highly recomended.

Vegatarian spring rolls 1 doz 10,000 VND

I have no idea: Amidst the Vietnamese
  • Tip Rating:
  • No normal tourist ever comes here, so my appearance surprised a few people. If you want to try what the Vietnamese eat themselves, this is your spot. Evidently, it's cheap (no English spoken though)

That's easy: there was only one dish: pho, the Vietnamese meat soup or (here) fish soup. This ensured I could get my food just by pointing at the brawl and myself.

  • Address: A small street close to the Dalat Eiffel Tower
  • Directions: Discovered the place when walking around searching for a small restaurant. Coming from the lake, turn right near the Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately I don't remember exact directions, so good luck finding it

    Caphe

  • Dalat coffee is well-known as the best coffee in Vietnam. So try dalat coffee in Dalat and not in HCMC, Hanoi or anywhere else.. you will find that coffee here is very cheap.. even can get a cup for 2,000D, which is the lowest I can get throughout the whole trip from north to south vietnam.

    Roadside: Xoi Man
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Xoi Man is a kind of colorful sticky rice with a lot of weird topping.. some taste like meat and others i cant remember the exact taste. But in conclusion, it is nice.

Especially when you are tiring walking on the streets for the whole day. Get Xoi Man as your dinner instead of those restaurant designing for tourist.

In Vietnam, you will enjoy local food if you get them a try. Trust me.

A plate of Xoi Man can be various from 8000D-12000D depends on what you have topped.

In front of Hang Nga Hotel: French Loaf
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • You can see french loaf in both cambodia and Vietnam. But I wish I could recommend you the french loaf at Dalat, although it is well-known that the french loaf in Nha Trang is better. But from my experience, it is not true.

The french loaf is topped with pate, cheese etc. You may choose what you want to top. The ingredient are almost the same in every places but from the journey, I found that this stall has equally nice french loaf with comparatively cheap price.

In the Market: Still in Da LAT
  • Tip Rating:
  • Into the Market, through the stalls and shops. Upstairs.
You can go from one food vendor to another until you have made up your complete meal.
Lots of stares cos you're a gaint if you are my size - 5' 10".
Mind the pickpockets, beggars (ignore the First one).

    Whatever you can mix...

We had lunch at this restaurant on our second day in Da Lat, once again part of our private guided tour and the restaurant was a favourite of our guide. The 5 or 6 course meal was most enjoyable, far better local food than we experienced in Ho Chi Minh City during our 4 day stay.

If you really want to experience true local Vietnamese food you should dine outside your hotel and walk a few streets back from the tourist district. You will enjoy a banquet for the price you would pay for a McDonalds burger, the memory of the burger will have vanished a few hours later but the Vietnamese banquet will last for ever.

Trong Dong Vietnamese Restaurant: Fabulous Meal At Local Restaurant
  • Satisfaction:
  • After completing our morning tour our guide took us to a local restaurant several streets back from the main market, about 3 minutes in his car. The meal was included in the tour and we commenced with a beautiful "hot pot" (some call it "steamboat") which was cooked on the table in front of us. It contained a variety of local vegetables and various meats cooked in a chicken broth, a most delicious meal in itself which was soon followed by 6 more courses. We ate until we could not consume anymore and there was enough left over to feed another couple.

When in Da Lat you must visit this restaurant, just catch a local taxi , the fare should be US $1 including tip.

Everthing we ate was top class.

V Cafe: Very near to excellence
  • Satisfaction:
  • We ate at this restaurant a couple times in May, 2007. Food was fantastic, especially the vegetarian Mexican dishes and sandwiches. Service was excellent, place was spotlessly clean, even the restrooms were clean and had hand towels! There is one huge table on the front patio for outside dining and several tables inside. A great place to have a cup of tea and relax as you get a whole pot, not just a cup!

Lemon Merangue Pie and hot pot of tea!
