Im not a Mhong alright ;-p by Arjaree It was a nice experience to get to hang out with the Hmong girls while I was in Sapa town. These Hmong girls come to the town from their village to sell tourists/travelers blankets, pillow cases, braclets and a few other stuff. Once we got pass how annoying and pushy some of the girls could be to get us buy something from them, they were sweet kids. We got to get our private tour guide from these few girls. They wandered around the town with us and sang for us. They asked questions and told us stories. One of the girls whom I made friends with, she asked me to write a reply letter to one former foreign friends of hers. Obviously that person experienced the same thing I and Im sure quite a few tourists/travelers might have experienced. It was the friendship. It was their smiles. And how they amazed us with their English. I cant help wondering how their lives would turn if they get a chance to get a proper education and opportunities like us. Leave a Comment

No visit to Sapa is complete without taking a walk through the minority villages. Most numerous are the H'Mong and Red Zao. A friendly lot, they will be the first people you will notice, as they try and flog their wares and souvenirs. There is excellent hiking around Sapa, catering to all levels of fitness, from an easy stroll through the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van, to seriuos hikes up Mount Fansipan, ath 3,142m the highest peak in Indochina.
Renting a Minsk (Russian motorbike), packing a few cold beers, and hitting the trails round Sapa. Leave a Comment

Sapa is a nice town, but specially made for tourist. Everyone speak to help each other grab a share from you. A lot of pretty minority, but too commercialised. Leave a Comment

The drinking water at Sapa is slightly more expensive than in anywhere else. For 1litre drinking water, you can get at 5,000D in any city in Vietnam but not sapa. You need to pay around 8,000D for a litre of water. Leave a Comment

by yuet29 Sapa people are curious. Even a normal local (not to sell you something) will first smile at you, then ask you where are you from, your age and your name. Vietnamese are very particular about age. Different to the custon in malaysia or singapore (not sure in other places) where the age of a lady is her top secret. They will ask your age and marital status even you are first met. The same experience I met the most in Sapa. Leave a Comment
