Train and coach
What i recommend is you should book a tour from a travel agency in Hanoi. Normally, it will be the 3 or 4 days tour. You gonna start in Hanoi by train on Friday evening and get to Lao Cai City early morning in Saturday. Then a coach will take you to Sapa, about 2 hours from Lao Cai city. Then depends on which tour you did choose, you may stay in Sapa and back to Hanoi on Sunday evening. Or, you may leave Sapa sooner and go to another town called Bac Ha. There are a few sight-seeings there. Within Laocai Province, you can only travel by coach. In the 2 towns, you may go around by wagon. Towns are small enought :)
