Nice restaurant just behind the main street with a nice selection of dishes. Ask for the terrasse on the second floor, gives some air and a bit less noise than on the ground floor.
Favorite Dish: Loved the caramelised pork.

If you like the music of France's singer/songwriter Georges Brassens this is the place for you.The owner and chief cook is mad about his music and even has c.d's of Russians singing the stuff !! But all very homely and nice. A small terrace outside on the riverfront allows you to get away from it a bit. This is a genuine experience both for the palate and the ears.
Favorite Dish: The chef recommended the prawn raviolis and they were delicious. Not the soft ones that stick to the throat but nice and crispy and a lovely taste.

This small restaurant's best asset is that it is on the river and looks very nice, with its beautiful decorations... but of the promised Japanese cuisine there was very little. As for the Vietnamese food... no comment
Favorite Dish: Indifferent food, in general - so we were really not too impressed. Only the soups were tasteful - especially the asparagus and chicken soup.

There are many places selling street food and fuit juices all over Hoi An... our favourite was along the river, where fruit juices were delicious... local youth seemed to be fond of pressed sugar-cane juice.
Favorite Dish: Have a coconut... a huge coconut, in fact... the biggest I have ever seen. Dirt cheap, and enough for three or more people... For two, it was massive, and we could not finish it

A small restaurant in a nice ancient wooden building by the river... very scenic, with passable food. Definitely the typical Hoi An standard food... nothing exceptional but edible.
Favorite Dish: The only decent food we ordered was the "traditional" rose of Hoi An, the rest of the meal was definitely not memorable... in fact I have totally removed the other dishes that were brought to us.

This place was very highly recommended in the Lonely Planet and other guides/forums. Evidently the 'loyal following' that is mentioned in the Lonely Planet is not so loyal, or at the least , not very large. We were looking forward to trying this place but after ferreting it out (on the river, right across from the public ferry docks) we discovered that it's prices were double or more that quoted in the Lonely Planet. Vegetetarian meals are now 98000 dong and Seafood is 135000 dong. We were confused about the huge increase in price but even more concerned about the lack of clientele. We decided to have a drink at a little stand across the road. After about 45 minutes of observing no one entering the Cafe Des Amis (although a few stopped and looked at the menu), we decided something was amiss and skipped it. Perhaps this is a case of the management becoming overly greedy after numerous good writeups. In any event, he had no customers. There were too many reasonably priced great restaurants in Hoi An for us to bother finding out why this place had no customers. We ate elsewhere.

Fried wontons is one of Hoi An's specialties. This restaurant had the best fried wontons I ever tasted in Hoi An! Very tasty! However service was slow the night that I ate there. Maybe it was because they were doing a cooking class at the same time.
Favorite Dish: Fried wontons! Taste it and you'll see!

OK so this is not a restaurant but more like a street stall. It's located on Phan Chu Trinh street (sometimes spelled Phan Chau Trinh), somewhere between Hoang Dieu Street and Le Loi. You're probably walking along that street anyway during your shopping excursions so if you see the nice lady with her stall, make sure to drop in for a quick drink.
It's similar to a Thai dessert. There's different types of jellies, fruits, milk, condensed milk, etc. You pick whatever it is you want in your glass and the lady will put it all together. Mix everything. Put in some ice and some milk and you're set.
Price: 5,000 VND / glass
Absolutely delicious! :)
Favorite Dish: I pointed at different types of jellies and fruits and the lady put everything together in one glass for me. It was good! I think you can also have avocado shakes and all that other good stuff as well.

This had tourist trap written all over it. The location was too good to be true and as you can see from the photo, it was just too cute a place to not take a photo of. I most likely would never have given it a try but I noticed its strategic location near the footbridge and had to go in for a few photos if nothing else.
Favorite Dish: Since we had not planned on actually eating here, we went in on a full stomach and just ordered some beers. I was surprised to find the prices reasonable and the vantage point of the riverside seating was fantastic for taking photos of conical hat clad locals biking across the nearby bridge.

This was a fantastic place. It has a concrete floor and very ordinary decor but let me tell the food is out of this world, it's cheap and the beer is 3000 dong for a pot (that's a large glass) and that is less than US 20 cents. The people are very friendly and you can amuse yourselves reading the exercise books they keep filled with the comments of various tourists.
You can't miss it. There's a big silver beer keg out the front.
Favorite Dish: The pork hotpot. Or the spring rolls. The White Roses (rice dumplings with pork) were also fantastic. We also had seafood hotpot another day. And noodles...whatever you pick, I can tell you it's great. We had Christmas lunch here..
Just don't order too much at once. Try a bit at a time. For most stomachs, there is a limit. You can always order more later...!
