A local guide aranged a seafood dinner on the perfume river. We rented a boat that went out to the midle of the river, and while drifting with the current, the family who lives on the boat coocked us a beautifull seafood dinner. It costed us $25 for 6 people, not including drinks. It was very tasty, andwe loved the informal atmosphere on the boat.

Situated in the gardens of an old house this is a great spot for an evening meal. The restaurant has an extensive menu and the staff were very happy to explain the dishes to us and to help us select a good range of food. Our waitress even told us when we had ordered enough food or else we may have gone on!
Favorite Dish: The spring rolls were excellent. We had never met make them yourself style but after a few moments tuition we were off. Wonderful.

This restaurant was highly recommended by lonely planet and we were not disappointed on this occasion. The menu was extensive and included some exotic ways to cook a frog! Our waitress spoke good English and was very helpful explaining the dishes and ensuring that our meal had a good balance of items. She even stopped us ordering too much food.
The Spring rolls were not what we expected – they were the make it yourself style. Seeing our confusion she demonstrated what we needed to do to make them and boy were they good.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at a very reasonable price. There were two annoyances however. We chose to eat outside in the garden as everyone else was out there. The proximity to the street meant constant noise from the youth of Hue riding round in circles on their motorbikes and secondly there was a stream of children offering various items for sale from shoeshine to cigarettes.

The Vietnamese restaurant I remember with the biggest smile is the Lac Thien which we visited in Saigon and Hue. As far as we understood, the first restaurant was in Hue and then the restaurant in Saigon opened. The owner in Saigon is the sister of the owner in Saigon. As most of his seven brothers and sisters he’s dumb. Most of the other family members live in Hue. Although he can’t speak he “told” us a lot of interesting things about his family – but you should go there yourself :-)
Favorite Dish: By the way: The food is the same in both restaurants and very good. I can recommend the Vietnamese pancakes with shrimp, vegetable, meat, salad and peanut-sauce but I have to say that it’s not much. The noodles with shrimp and vegetable are also very good. And if you go home the owner probably will give you one of his great self-made bottle openers.

A local place with some very good Hué specialities. But be careful for the location! My favorite is in Nguyen Thai Hoc. Not so far away, in Chu Van An street, there's a restaurant with a similar name catering for tour groups. Needless to say which one is the best and cheapest and most fun...
Favorite Dish: Bó Nhúng Dãm, which is beef boiled in some kind of vinegar with herbs. You dip it for about 20 seconds in the boiling stock, then you put it on some rice paper, together with fresh onions and a salad, you try to make a roll of this and then you dip this roll in a peanut and a chili sauce. If you're not used to chopsticks you can make quite a mess of it, but it was really delicious!
