This is also the place to make purchase of the local handicraft - conical hats and other wares for daily use. You will also find the local food being sold here.

This rambling, covered market has a little bit of eveything. Fruit & veg, fast food, jewellery, conical "poem" hats (hold them up to the light-they reveal some lovely cut-out scenes)
Our favourite however, was the people selling what looked like fresh cranberry-there were moths that landed on them. the stall-owners were happy to let the moths "lick" their fruit - a welcome change from a country that normally has no patience with nature.

A great place to buy fresh fruits - as well as taking interesting photo - is the Dong Ba Market in Old Hue (basically on the forbidden city side of the river). The market is in the open air - large, lively and colourful... and you can find all you need.
Apparently you can buy the best conical hats of all Vietnam, but the few we saw on sale were cheap tourist souvenirs...

Dong Ba market is on the north bank of the Perfume River, just over the Truong Tien bridge. It has hundreds of stalls selling almost everything from clothing, thru houseware to sounvenirs.

This is a huge 2 or 3 storey can't remember now market selling all sorts of treasures. There are all kinds of desinger labels here to be had a bargain prices. We girls all bought ouselves a pure silk blouse in the traditional style at a cost of $US6 each that was without bargaining hard. If you want fabric like many other markets in Vietnam you will be spoilt for choice.
Just watch out for the rats we had one cross our path that was a s big as my cats at home!!!!
