Tri Shaw

by Designerartgirl

A trishaw can be found in most towns around Vietnam and are so nice. Most trishaw drivers will give you a tour of the places you want to go, even tell you a little bit of history or point of, pieces of interest to you... BUT, make sure you barter a price before you start or you'll be sure to get ripped off. Many prefer to talk in American Dollars rather than Vietnamese Dong so use whichever is easiest...

Reunification Express

by richiecdisc

Though one can travel very easily on the backpacker bus that runs down the whole coast of Vietnam for as little as $27, it is nice to change it up a bit with a train trip. It is a bit more expensive but for the train afficionado, it is a must. Or maybe you're just tired of the bus. The Reunification Express is by no means a luxury trip but it's fun and more comfortable than a night bus by a long shot. We took an overnight train from Hanoi to Hue that left at 11 PM. We got a soft sleeper for some luxury. From what the ticket says, it cost 331,000 dong ($21) but our hotel charged us $29. We felt stupid until our sleeper mates for the night told us they paid $58 each! Buyer beware (hint: buy your own tickets at the train station). We were surprised that breakfast was included and that came with a beer to boot! After a night on the Reunification Express, we needed it...lol.

a boat trip not to miss

by richiecdisc

I had read about Mama Linh’s Boat tours in Nha Trang and it sounded like a lot of fun but on arriving in the beach town, I noticed that numerous operators had jumped on the bandwagon and were doing what was described as the same exact tour, and generally for less money. So, we opted for one run by T.M. Brothers Café on D Tran Hung Dao. It is similar to big boy Sinh Café but we found their buses were newer so we started using them instead. They offered breakfast before the boat trip so we opted to give it a try. We were surprised to find it was a full and very good breakfast rather than the expected bread and jam. The boat trip was great too, with a full seafood buffet lunch and time to do some snorkeling as well. The best part was the makeshift bar they had out on the water, where we could drink as much homemade fruit wine as we could stomach. Our little group bonded immediately and it...

Train

by muddybok

Travel by train in Vietnam may sound like a good idea. It's slightly more expensive than buses and of course cheaper than air.One set back is the cafe helper cannot speak English. Order food on the train is almost near to impossible since they do not have a menu (not even a Vietnamese menu). Food menu in English, you just forget about it.

Driving in Vietnam

by MParent

Driving in Vietnam is CRAZY! Utter chaos is the best way to describe it. I don't know if they even let foreigners drive a car but you don't want to. We had a personal driver and after a few days I was not so uncomfortable on the road.

Trains

by MParent

We took an overnight train from Hue to Hanoi. It took about 12 hours and was not as bad as I thought. There are different classes of trains. We took the E2 and had a 4-person room that had 2 top bunks and two bottom bunks. We had 2 strangers sleeping in the room with us but they turned out to be very nice ladies. One was from Spain and spoke great English, the other was from Vietnam and didn't talk at all.We heard from other travelers that the S-class trains are not as nice. More beds per room and sometimes no air conditioning.Either type of train is pretty noisy and a very strange experience. Especially when you're pulling up to a stop and they blare this horrible music over the speaker and then they make announcements in Vietnamese for 30 minutes at at time! Luckily our train only stopped once during the night - we heard the S trains stop much more frequently. The trains are, however, a...

Taxi!!!

by muddybok

Taxi is definitely the best choice after stepping out of airport or train station.I don't think you'll want to catch other mode of transportation (Cyclo or bike) with your heavy backpack on your back. Once you're checking into your hotel, you may choose whichever mode of transport that you may fancy.

Tip Photo
Air

by muddybok

Travel by air can be considered the fastest and of course costing the most as compared to train & buses. If you can't stand the numb butt for travel by bus for 12 hours or more, travel by air is the best option.I fly Malaysia Air Line (MAS) to Saigon & the moving up north by busses (Saigon-Hue) & train (Hue-Hanoi).

Easy Rider Service

by muddybok

Easy rider service is one possible mode of transportations for you to tour around Dalat (and many other towns too) & your schedule and payment is negotiable with your rider.Unlike some big group tour bus, you'll have limited visiting time per location & long waiting time for some not so discipline tour members.

Bus around Mekong Delta

by Aliceinhn

Talking about the Mekong Delta, people often think of trips by boat along the rivers. However, it's not always the case. You need to take a bus sometimes. In this case, I'd suggest Haicuong high standard bus company. They have bus from HCMC to Vinhlong, Cantho, Rachgia, Camau - where SinhCafe doesn't reach by bus. If you are group of 4 or 5, they have car.Their address:In HCMC: 765 Le Hong Phong St. District 10.
