Another Ornate Church. This One On Tutuila by Groverdean Whether you're in American Samoa or the Independent Samoa you will not have to travel far to realise that Christianity plays a very big part in the daily existance of most Samoan's lives. Close to 100% of the population belong to various Christian faiths. Missionaries first landed in the 1830's in Samoa. Since then the church has integrated into everyday Samoan life with churches in abundance throughout the islands. It is important to respect their beliefs when you visit, despite how you may feel about organised religion. Also of importance if coming to this part of the world is to realise that absolutely nothing happens on a Sunday except going to church. So if you need food or to travel anywhere, make sure you have planned before hand. Leave a Comment

American Football On Tutuila Beach by Groverdean The American Influence in this part of Samoa is very clear. Apart from the KFC and Pizza Hut stores (soon to be joined by Taco Bell), when you drive out of the airport, you will notice the non existance of fales like in the Independant Samoa. It's all houses in American Samoa. Everyone drives American cars. Yes, they all speak English with American accents. US Flags waiving about on every second car/building. Everyone has a TV which screens US Football seemingly 24 hours a day. Where as in Independant Samoa it's all Rugby, here it's all American Football! Leave a Comment

Kids Just Love Having Their Photo Taken - Olosega by Groverdean, 4 more photos Such beautiful people everywhere throughout the Samoan islands. In American Samoa I was greeted with the same friendly, laid back, people I met in the Independant Samoa. The only difference, is they speak with an American accent. Of course culturally it is different as the American Samoa people have stronger ties to the US now. The several days I spent on Ofu island where great and I got to meet so many of the local people, particularly when I was invited to share in a family BBQ. I also got to meet many of the local kids who were great fun and just wouldn't let me stop taking photos of them! Leave a Comment

Ofu Beach With Olosega Island - Am. Samoa by Groverdean, 1 more photos American Samoa is made up of 5 islands. The main island is Tutuila, nearby is the smaller Aunu'u. The Manu'a Islands are located about 100kms away from these 2 islands. Ta'u, Olosega, and Ofu islands make up the Manu'a Islands. Leave a Comment

by dreamworld If you can afford it...rent a car for the day (public transport is something you should forget about...) and tour the island of Upolu from Apia
Apia, the capital is a small pleasant city. Right in the center of the city, there is a clock tower and next, something like a tourist office, helpful but curious....(how an European could show up here....I couldn't be more distant from my homeplace). In Apia, to relax, go to Palolo Deep Marine Park, where snorkeling and sunbathing is great (all foreigners living in Samoa seem to meet there). Around the island, I strongly recommend : FATUMEA POOL, a crystal clear sweetwater source where you can swim...very refreshing (>>>the picture shows Fatumea pool Leave a Comment

by Matai_Palagi Visit Tisa's Barefoot Bar on the eastern end of Tutuila Island, American Samoa - Spend the afternoon sipping Vailima at Le Godenet in Apia - Wander about LRS home in Vailima - Stop in at Rubbles in Pago - Climb Rainmaker - Spend as much time as you can on Savaii!
Watching the slow lazy afternoons drift by on the tides while sharing a cold Vialima with good friends. Rushing from home in the evenings and driving past the village of Leone in the Western District to the Pritchard Bakery - you've NOT had fresh island bread till you've been there!! And the prices are dirt cheap - uncut and in brown paper bags, this is a real treat!! Pritchard's Bakery has been an island icon for over 25 years -
