Visit "Mephisto" the only WW1 German Tank

by pedroswift Updated Jul 1, 2015

After 70 years of exhibition in Queensland the First World War German tank "Mephisto" has arrived at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
To commemorate the centenary of the First World War, the Memorial has collaborated with the Queensland Museum to display "Mephisto" outside Brisbane for the first time since it was transported from Europe after the end of the First World War."

This is an unique piece of World War machinery. Take the opportunity to inspect it and discover its history.

More details on the only remaining WW1 German A7v Stermpanzerwagen (#506) tank and its capture by Queensland troops at my Ipswich home page.

This war memorial is incredibly designed as a museum and a memorial in one. Fascinating exhibits including real tanks, airplanes, battlefield recreations, and engineering stations. Memorial includes a chapel, wall of names and a tranquility pool. Entertaining and sobering for the entire family, plan to spend at least two hours there.

At a young age when I went there in 1988, I probably didn't appreciate it as much as I would now.

The Australian War Memorial is regarded as one of the most impressive war museums in the world, and traces the history of Australia's fighting forces during the two World Wars and other conflicts.

    Hours:
    10am-5pm Daily

If there is a reason to go to Canberra, this is it. One of the most extensive collections of war artifacts assembled in one place in the world.
