    This is the perfect place to begin your visit to Canberra. Located in Commonwealth Park opposite the James Cook fountain the Centre provides a very good visual and historic overview of the development of the Australian Capital. It also has an attractive cafe that (weather permitting) is a nice place to grab a lunch or snack.

  • Canberra has many good site-seeing places as it is the showcase of Australiana. The Australian War Memorial is huge and covers the history of Australians at war. The National Art Gallery is also large and worth a visit. Questacon is an interactive museum on science, good for youngsters. The Australian Museum is a must see for foreign visitors. The National Library of Australia also has many exhibits for those of a literary bent. The Australian Institute of Sport has interesting tours for those with a sporting bent.

    Any visit to Canberra really should include some of the major monuments like Parliament House, Old Parliament House, the National Gallery of Australia and the Australian War Memorial. In all of these important buildings, you'll learn something more about the Australian character and way of life - through art, through collections in the museums and from the people who conduct the guided tours. Usually the atmosphere is informal and the guides are happy to answer questions.

    It iw roth to visit the Royal Australian Mint. There is a special trip and you may have a look how their produce coins and some exhibitions of old bankonotes and coins. In adittion, it is possible to make your own coin. There is special machine and you put few dollares and you will be given one dollar coin.:) The Duke of Edinburgh, officially opened the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra, on Monday 22nd February 1965. The Mint is open to the public seven days a week.
