by caers

I can reccomend the nightlife in Melbourne, all the people are in a good mood and will come up to you for a conversation. Try the bars and discos in the city or go to St.-Kilda... there is something for everybody.I didn't liked Sydney or the pubs at the toeristic Eastcoast, but everybody has other standards I guess.

by LAOWAI

Since I'm not from here, it's probably better to ask a local- that's what I did. This photo is of the locals I asked and isn't it apparent that we are having a good time. Actually, I think they are so happy because I am about to get on a train to Melbourne in this photo. The outdoor sidewalk cafes are nice places to grab a beer and people watch. Plus, it's a good place to get a feel for the city. I wasn't aware of a dress code in OZ.

by cyber_gypsy

Forget night clubs and bars..If you want a unique night time experience get a big bunch of bananas and go into Melbourne's Fitzroy Gardens just after dusk. Sit down on the grass among the trees with a peeled banana and wait for the possums to come....Unforgetable

by dusk

Go catch something at the sydney opera house or one of the many playhouses that the city has. When I went, a friend told me NOT to venture out to the city at night. THAT was the single worst advice I got. ( I told my friend that and we still laugh about it)Sydney is safe, even for a lone gal roaming the streets at night and coming back to a hostel in Kings Cross. There's lots to do. Check out the local listings in the TNT magazines which you can probably pick up from any hostel.

SYDNEY. Partying at THE ROCKS, CIRCULAR QUAY area on New Year's Eve and watch the amazing fireworks!Try and get a dinner table at any one of the many restaurants at THE ROCKS. From this vantage point, you are guaranteed a 100% unobstructed view of the fireworks later over Sydney Harbour.

by Sarah97

Hey, there are tonz of pubs you can drop by at every town you go. Most of Ossies go to the pub on Friday night. They go there to meet people, enjoy music and most of all have fun! You can chose the pub of your style, I bet. So, no wories for the night life in Australia!!! =)In Sydney for example you can go to Kings Cross, Darling harbour and Rocks. If I name the places from my friends and my own experience, Studibaker for Kings Cross (Thanks Krystynn for this correct name), Oriental Hotel pub, Jacksons, Irish pub for Rocks area. And for Darling harbour, there are several very famous and treandy pubs and discoteques near the bridge. I will try to get the names for this area soon from my sister.

by llamahoof

Definitely the Bourbon & Beefsteak in Kings' Cross, just outside of Sydney. Also, the Royal in Launceston, Tasmania Bourbon & Beefsteak: Three floors, each different. The bottom floor is dark with flashy lights and strange music. The middle floor has bands sometimes, and is bright and cheery. The top floor is a dance club. Bars on each floor, and everyone can just wander back and forth between all floors. The Royal: small town pub with a great atmosphere and pool tables None

There's really NOT much nightlife here (read: those throbbing.... pulsating... earth-stopping ones, that is!). Sigh. So, we spent quite a bit of our time here at the Mondo Bar @ Cairns Hilton Hotel instead.

by Grete

We never had so much fun as in Darwin. The beer really flows in huge amounts there. Often combined with really cheap and well tasting meals ( 3 - 5 Aussie dollars ) Apparantly the locals drink quite a lot too compared to other similar sized towns. As I said we had a lot of fun.Aussies apparently love to gamble. In Melbourne there's a huge complex with restaurants, a cinema, and a huge casino several stories high. They have everything from blackjack, twentyone - every kind of cardgame and roulette. Beware or your money will fly. The big complex calle d' The Crown ' also houses shops and a big hotel.
