    This is one of the many interpretive signs at the main observation platform which explains the dynamics of the floodplains. These signs put a lot of meaning into what you're seeing.

    Luma Luma Story

    Paintings often have a theme based in the dreamtime. This one shows a segment out of the story about Luma Luma and the water maids. It's quite an impressive painting.

    Rainbow Serpent

    The Rainbow Serpent was a very important dreantime creature in Aboriginal culture. This wall painting depicts it in the Jawoyn style.

    Large fish traps up to 3 metres long were woven from plant fibres. Size was important where you were often catching barramundie

    These birds are common in flocks around Kakadu during the dry season. The ones here stay all year and don't make a mess on the floor.

    X-ray art

    The X-ray style of art is about 1,500 years old in the region. Previously it was done on rock surfaces and tree bark, but these days it's mostly done on art paper.

    The main visitor centre for the Park is at Bowali, near Jabiru. The centre provides information and has numerous displays, videos and a library. There is also a souvenir shop and cafe.
