Territory Manor Cafe/Restaurant: Surprise! They Serve Barramundi & Chips

Zig and I did not eat at the Territory Manor Cafe/Restaurant. We just went to the Barramundi Feeding Show. The sign outside showed morning tea and lunch items. It also said that they serve "Proper Coffee!". BTW, this is the closest restaurant to Bitter Springs if you happened to stay at the Mataranka Cabins and Camping.

MHTR Garden Bistro: Outdoor Dining with Entertainment

by AlbuqRay Updated Jul 14, 2012

The Mataranka Homestead Tourist Resort (MHTR) Garden Bistro is open in the evening. It has good, reasonably priced food and a beautiful outdoor dining area with a view of the stage and the evening's entertainment. There was even a kids' menu. It is located between the open-air, covered patio and the 1916 Mataranka Homestead building (where the MHTR staff live).

Favorite Dish: I had the Cajun Chicken (17.95 AUD). It came with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, and cheesy califlower. However, the locally caught Barramudi is their specialty (26.95 AUD).

Jeannie's Kitchen: Take Away 8 AM - 8 PM During Wet Season

Jeannies Kitchen at Mataranka Homestead Resort

Named after Jeannie Gunn (who wrote the book, "We of the Never Never"), Jeannie's Kitchen is open for take away from 8 AM - 8 PM during the wet season. The prices were reasonable and the food good. There were also daily specials. A movie based on Jeannie Gunn's book was shot around Mataranka and at Pine Creek in the early 1980's. The movie is shown daily at noon right outside Jeannie's Kitchen. You can order lunch, eat at one of the tables on the open-air patio, and watch the movie. In the last picture note the High Tide sign for the Australia Day flood on 27 Jan 1998. I am guessing that they did not show the movie that day.

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the bacon and eggs breaky for 8.50 AUD. A bottle of orange juice was 3.95 AUD.

    Mataranka Pub: Awesome Oysters

by aussirose Updated Nov 20, 2009

    Mataranka Pub

I had the best oysters ever!! here at the downtown Mataranka Pub.

My favourite oysters come from South Australia and I thought these ones were from SA. They were huge!!...and yummy!!

Well I was amazed to hear that they come from New Zealand! So... well done NZ!! You have oysters to rival SA!! And funnily enough, my favourite white wine is from NZ.... and my favourite reds are from SA haha.

But I didn't wash the oysters down with wine.... but none other than a good old Queensland XXXX. :o)

Next to the Cafe is the bar... best place to hit after a big day sight seeing :o)

Good place to meet people as well and hear all about their adventures.

I loved the art in this place.... all depicting the charactors of We of the Never Never.

Wanna see the bar underwater?.... Have a squiz at my second pic.

    Mataranka Homestead Cafe

Mataranka Homestead has a huge covered outdoor dining area and caters for breakky, lunch & dinner.

The meals are large pub style and very good value for money. Friendly staff add to the experience. I enjoyed having dinner here.
