We decided to visit Alice Springs because we thought it would be interesting to see such a remote town. It wasn't! There are lots of souvenier shops, and very little else. Our hotel didn't accept travellers checks, and the banks were closed because it was Saturday.Oh dear! The nicest thing we saw were these pink 'parrots'.
Sunrise/Sunset at Uluru

Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, you have to see it, but preferably not with hundreds of other people! There are designated sights to which you are taken to view the sunrise and/or sunset. You have to jostle for a spot to take a good picture, and the sense of awe and wonder is slightly spoilt because the experience feels very far from 'unique'.
Most companies supply wine and peanuts for sunset; hot drinks and cookies for sunrise. As long as you accept the other tourists as an inevitability, it's quite good fun!

Bring something warm for the top of the Rock if you are climbing it early. Though you will be plenty warm on the ascent, it's very windy on the top and the cold desert air will chill you quickly. Here we are trying to stay warm in a bit of a hole. Well, not really so bad for me and not the kind of trap most guys would mind! lol
