NECCESARY DAILY ITEMS THAT I CARRY WITH ME

by DennyP

When out and about weather it be in the city or in the country I Always carry my small backpack which carries my camera gear (out of sight) also my neccessary toiletries and essentials that I may need..ALWAYS CARRY SUFFICIENT FRESH WATER DEPENDING ON THE TEMPERATURE OF THE DAY. ALWAYS wear a comfortable pair of shoes/boots as you will be doing a lot of walking ESPECIALLY if you are in one of the many National parks as they are usually in isolated areas. I always carry a windjacket in case of weather changes A small compact poncho that will cover me and my smallbackpack A wide brimmed hat for sun protection A pair of reliable sunglasses. BE AWARE OF EXTREME TEMPERATURES IN AUSTRALIA ..WHEN OUT AND ABOUT..I CARRY(as mentioned before) SUFFICIENT FRESH WATER ,ESPECIALLY IN NATIONAL PARKS AS YOU CAN BE IN VERY ISOLATED AREAS WHERE YOU WILL DRINK A LOT OF WATER I carry also a packet of wet...

Pack Light, They'll be checking every pocket

by peachfront

You should bring the smallest number of items that you need for your trip. I wore a computer vest, which had all my pockets, plus a purse, plus a computer bag. If you are selected for a search at customs before entering Australia, as I was, you will be glad you packed light, because they will check every pocket and even open pill bottles. It's OK to have ibuprofen (and probably other OTC medicines) -- I asked at immigration before I got to the "search" table -- but they will look to be sure that you really have your medicine in there and not food. Just don't bring any food. At all. Whatsoever. Save yourself a lot of hassle. :-)Don't worry, they put on disposable gloves to search your items. Otherwise, I think I might have thrown my ibuprofen away after it got opened by a stranger. But they seem to be health conscious -- both for their own safety and for yours.

Trendy souvenir hat from Australia Zoo

by hopang

The photographs on the right depict a superior quality souvenir hat purchased from the popular Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo at Sunshine Coast in the state of Queensland. It certainly is an excellent souvenir to be brought home with you to your country. It costs between A$15.00 and A$20.00 per piece. It is also ideal to give as a present to your friends and relatives at home!

Handpainted returning boomerang with throwing instructions for right handers is an excellent souvenir to take home to your country from Australia - ideal as a decoration in your cupboard. It is also fun to play with on the open field, suitable for both children and adults. It is available in most souvenir shops in large cities. It costs between A$10.00 and A$50.00 depending on its quality and size.

Hat for the sun

by SirRichard

A good big hat or cap for the sun is a good idea when visiting Australia. If you don't want to carry one, you can always buy a typical leather hat (like the one I bought, see pic). It is a good souvenir, and you can find good ones for 60-80 AUS $.

Hats & Sun Blocker

by RogerLB

The sun can be quite harsh and it is advisable to wear a wide brimmed hat and a cotton shirt.Walking boots if you are venturing into the outback. A high factor sun blocker is essential and shoud be applied at regular intervals Depending what you do, a good camera, spare batteries and several gigs of memory card is a must. I took over 1,600 pictures on my touring around Limited experience here but, if you are out for lengthy periods, particularly in the outback, make sure that you take, and drink plenty of water and carry a charged mobile cell phone with you. Let somebody know where you are going and when and where you expect to arrive back. If you break down in the outback don't wander off. stay by the car and remember it will get cold at night. Be aware that road trains operate on many outback roads and may not see you if your hazard lights are not on or are not wearing something...

Australian packing list

by kelyeah

Australia sees all types of weather depending on where you are going. If you are going over all of Australia I would suggest packing for all seasons from freezing cold (in places like Tasmania) to very hot and humid (in places like Alice Springs and Darwin. Certain medical items such as narcotics, amphetamines, barbiturates, tranquillisers, hallucinogens, growth hormones, anabolic and androgenic steroids and erythropoietin (EPO) require an import permit and I would suggest declaring everything if you are unsure. Some medicinal products may also require quarantine clearance. Australia has all the photo equipment you will need. Just enter any shopping centre and will find a place to get your photos developed, burnt to disk or printed from a memory stick, USB or CD. Camping: most places where you can go camping in a tent are quite cold at night so make sure you take plenty of...

Beating the Brutal Sun (Part 3 - Sunscreens)!

by DarkRay

Equally important, is the sunscreen. Sunscreens comes in 2 varieties, chemical and physical. Regardless of what you choose to use, pick one that provides at least SPF30 protection and full spectrum UV-A protection whenever possible. Note that SPF is only an indication of protection against UV-B.Chemical sunscreens work by having its active compounds, often Octocrylene and Octyl Methoxycinnamate for UV-B, and Avobenzone (Parsol 1789) or its derivatives (such as the Meroxyl variations and Helioplex) for UV-A, absorbing the UV radiation. However, after enough radiation is absorbed, these chemicals can break down and lose their sun protection properties. Thus, frequent reapplications (ranging from every 2 to 4 hours and depending on water exposure) are needed.Chemical sunscreens are more commonly found, and are really cheap in Australia where I actually spotted a 1 litre pump bottle of...
